Assistant Coach of Men's Lacrosse

The Assistant Coach of Men's Lacrosse assists in all aspects of the intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse team including coaching, recruiting, scheduling, program administration and budgeting. Additional responsibilities may include assisting in the Sports Information Department or performing administrative duties as assigned at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.

This is a salaried, exempt-level position and requires the work hours necessary to successfully complete the job responsibilities. The Assistant Coach typically works 30+ hours per week year round with some variability depending on the season. Must have the ability to work weekends and evenings. Coaches are expected to be on campus during the academic year (late August – Reunion Weekend in June) and are expected to keep hours during this time that make them readily available to students. At times, this may involve greater than 40 hours per week in season of primary sport and varied weekly hours out of season. It is expected that coaches will recruit during the summer months requiring possible additional travel. Frequent overnight travel with student athletes is required during the lacrosse season.

Bachelor's degree (Physical Education or related field) preferred OR a minimum of 5 years of coaching experience at the post-secondary level and/or professional competitive experience. Applicants must possess demonstrated knowledge of lacrosse skills and strategy and the ability to effectively teach them; ability to motivate and effectively communicate with student-athletes; willingness and ability to actively recruit qualified candidates to Bowdoin; commitment to being a positive member of the Athletics Department, the College community and the ability to influence his/her athletes to do the same; working knowledge of NCAA and NESCAC rules and an understanding of the philosophy behind them. Administrative skills such as prioritization, organization, and budgeting are needed. Strong writing and communication skills as well as familiarity with video technology are preferred. The coach must be self-directed and motivated and be able to work independently and work under pressure. A valid driver's license and ability to meet the standards of the College's current Motor Vehicle Policy are required. Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification must be maintained. The successful candidate will be subject to pre-placement physical, motor vehicle record check, and criminal background check.

Demonstrated effectiveness in coaching Men's Lacrosse is required. At least one year experience coaching at the secondary or post-secondary level or one year experience working in a competitive collegiate environment is required. Successful recruiting to a highly selective institution is preferred
