Assistant Professor, Coastal Tourism and Hospitality
The Department of Recreation, Park & Tourism Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for an Assistant Professor position with a 55% appointment at Texas A&M, College Station and 45% appointment with Texas A&M Galveston.
Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned doctorate at the time of appointment in an appropriate social science discipline. Candidates should have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and research, enjoy working on interdisciplinary teams, and have the capacity to apply disciplinary knowledge to tourism and/or hospitality problems. Preference will be given to individuals with education and/or experience in coastal hospitality and/or tourism marketing, management, planning or economics and who have strong evidence of an ongoing research program, and prior teaching experience in tourism and/or hospitality.
Duties: Responsibilities will likely include: teaching three appropriate undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Tourism and/or Hospitality per year; serving on graduate student committees; and serving on departmental, college, and university committees at a level appropriate to the expectations for an assistant professor. The successful candidate will also be responsible for an extension/outreach program delivering hospitality training across the state of Texas; online tourism/hospitality courses taught at both A&M College Station and Galveston; and developing an outstanding research and outreach program in hospitality and/or tourism. Specific expertise in coastal tourism and hospitality marketing, management, planning or economics is desired, though all tourism-related areas of expertise will be considered. The successful candidate will be housed at Texas A&M College Station, while also teaching students in Galveston through online tourism/hospitality course offerings.
Appointment: The successful candidate will have a 10-month tenure-track teaching, research and extension appointment. Salary will be commensurate with rank and qualifications and additional months of salary devoted to extension duties may be negotiated. The anticipated start date is Fall 2017.
