POSITION: Full-time, with faculty rank; continuing status track; 9-month faculty appointment, in the Traditional Undergraduate Social Work Program, School of Humanities, Religion, and Social Sciences (HRSS).

STARTING DATE: August 1, 2018

The rapidly expanding FPU Social Work Program seeks to prepare undergraduate students for careers in the helping professions. The program offers both a traditional (TUG), as well as a degree completion (DC) option in social work. Working closely with the DC Social Work Program Co-Director, the successful candidate will oversee and teach in the TUG program.

ROLE

  • Oversee administration of TUG program in Social Work at the FPU main campus;
  • Lead the TUG Social Work program in collaboration with the degree completion program co-director;
  • Teach social work classes as assigned;
  • Enhance student learning by guiding robust field instruction;
  • Assist Social Work Program co-director in the identification and supervision of adjunct instructors to teach in the program;
  • Represent the Social Work program and FPU at community and professional meetings;
  • Pursue an active scholarly agenda;
  • Maintain close professional relationships with local social work agencies;
  • Comply with CSWE program guidelines for Baccalaureate level programs in social work;
  • Mentor and advise social work majors (as well as general education students);
  • Maintain and expand current MOU’s with local / regional agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Earned terminal degree in appropriate field of study, (candidates with a master’s degree, or those nearing terminal degree completion, may be considered); all faculty are required to have, or be willing to complete, a terminal degree;
  • Ability to mentor and advise students in TUG social work program;
  • Minimum five years of experience in a specific area of social work practice;
  • Teaching experience at college level;
  • Knowledge of instructional technology / learning management systems;
  • Ability to utilize professional connections in the community to develop appropriate field internships;
  • Provide positive leadership and restorative discipline for students;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to cross cultures and to understand and advance diversity;
  • Commitment to the integration of faith, learning, and living;
  • Agreement with the mission of the university and ability to effectively communicate its values;
  • Knowledge of and commitment to NASW Values and Code of Ethics;
  • Knowledge of and ability to meet CSWE program accreditation guidelines;
  • Record, or promise, of scholarly achievement;
  • Commitment to the Christian faith and the University’s mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning and involvement in a local church.

Preferred:

  • Skills in program and curriculum development and management;
  • Self-starter who is able to work independently and collaboratively;
  • Familiarity with the Latino community, as well as the ethnic and socio-economic diversity of the Central San Joaquin Valley;
  • Membership in a Mennonite or Anabaptist congregation.

COMPENSATION: Dependent on qualifications and experience, and paid out over 12 months. Full-time benefits include insurance (medical, vision, dental, LTD), retirement (TIAA-CREF), Section 125 options.
