Philanthropy Communications Officer, Bay Area

Description:

Reporting to the Area Director of Communications, Bay Area Operating unit, this position has responsibility for leveraging fundraising and communications opportunities through the System and implementation of unified philanthropy communications strategy throughout the Bay.

 

The Philanthropy Communications Officer has responsibility for communications and donor relations activities throughout the Bay including impact reports, grateful patient stories, board newsletters and other written or digital media to educate donors and prospects on the mission of our affiliate philanthropy programs and priorities. Working closely with the Area Director of Communications and philanthropy leadership, this role collaborates with all members of the area fundraising team, including regional staff. This position keeps close contact with local fundraising needs, helping to bring key messaging from the System to strengthen the storytelling and fundraising opportunities locally. The communications officer maintains consistent delivery of key messages, aligned to service lines, branding and other key priorities of the affiliates and the Sutter Health Network.

 

The primary purpose of this position is to provide communications expertise and support as it relates to philanthropy and enhance the dollars raised throughout the Region. Under the direction of the Area Director of Communications, this position is responsible for the overall communications vision and strategy for the Bay Area’s philanthropic presence to enhance its visibility, reputation and ultimately the number of donors engaged at represented affiliates and their philanthropic impact.

Build Key Message Alignment and Dissemination

 

Create and produce written fundraising documents, specialized letters, event collateral, quarterly newsletters, yearend solicitation letters, talking points, stewardship reports, acknowledgement letters, annual reports, magazines, websites, brochures, donor profile stories, videos, and other bodies of work designed to cultivate, solicit and steward donors.

 

Disseminate and leverage key messaging for philanthropy leadership in written, electronic and verbal form. 

Attend philanthropy staff, board and committee meetings to offer updates on strategy and progress. Regularly attend Bay Area Operating Unit Communications meetings to ensure alignment of activities on enhance team building and communication.

 

Develop relationships with clinical services, physicians and staff as a basis for creative storytelling to inspire donors and prospects about Sutter affiliates.

Serve as a key partner with philanthropy to share grateful patient stories and innovations in clinical programs with other donors and prospects to showcase the powerful connections in each of the communities we serve.

Leverage the various communications channels in the Sutter Health Network to elevate the philanthropic messaging and educate employees and physicians about the power of philanthropy.

 

Create new digital programming to share philanthropy impact with existing donors and attract new prospects.

 

Share powerful stories with branding, communications and marketing teams to enrich storytelling content and connect broad messaging to local impact.

 

Leverage Sutter Health branding campaign

 

Direct and implement integrated region-wide philanthropy brand/style guidelines in partnership that align to current branding campaign, continuing to integrate and align philanthropy communications strategy with Sutter communications.

 

Provide messaging strategy and counsel to philanthropy leadership and gift officers at key internal and external events, including but not limited to donor cultivation gatherings, board meetings, and educational events.

 

Disseminate useful stories and collateral to entire team to help achieve annual fundraising goals.

 

 

Steward donors to showcase value of investing in our network

 

Partner with members of the Bay fundraising teams to elevate the philanthropy vision and strategy to engage more donors and third party cheerleaders to enhance the reputation of local affiliates or the Sutter Health System.

 

Explore new strategies to attract donors

 

Partner with Area Director of Communications to creating and deliver programmatic elements to widen the pool of philanthropic prospects to related age segments.

 

Research and test new tools for new donor communication and acquisition, designed to increase philanthropic revenue across the organization over time by increasing our funding base and contributing to the fundraising goals of the entire team.
