Baird's Tax team is responsible for external and internal corporate tax reporting, compliance, and audit defense as well as providing strategic consulting for the firm. With Baird's continued growth of and complexity of the global tax environment, the Tax team is seen as critical to continued firm success, including high visibility to senior leadership and exposure to all areas of the business.

The newly created Tax Manager position supports the overall function by understanding the team and firm's strategic priorities, and managing tax personnel and corporate tax projects to achieve those priorities. The team today consists of one Director, one Manager, two Senior Analysts, and one Analyst. This important role will share in the leadership of the team and will ensure compliance and best practice for firm tax practices.

As a Tax Manager, you will:

  • Manage Baird's corporate tax compliance obligations and tax calendar, including federal, international and state and local obligations. Substantial involvement in the provision for income tax for financial reporting purposes.
  • Supervise tax seniors and analysts, directly or indirectly, who are responsible for preparing most workpapers, returns and other data and documentation to meet Baird's federal, international and state compliance obligations.
  • Responsible for the primary review of workpapers, returns, filing, tax payments, and documentation
  • Manage the monthly calculation of the effective tax rate, including the monitoring of peer rates and tax opportunities to lower the rate. Review, reconcile and forecast changes in the ETR. Manage required tax disclosures, footnotes, and external auditor requests for regulatory and financial reporting purposes.
  • Oversee tax projects and studies, and internal and external tax review and analysis.
  • Conduct research as needed and share in the team's responsibility to stay abreast of law changes.
  • Assist with audit defense (federal, state income tax, sales & use, property, employment).
  • Regularly communicate and meet with personnel throughout Baird, in order to achieve strategic priorities, manage risk, and respond to questions.

What we need from you:

  • CPA, Master's Degree in Taxation or J.D. with at least 7 years tax experience and solid overall tax background
  • Public accounting experience with exposure to complex clients and multiple tax disciplines ( e.g., federal and international or state experience)
  • A solid decision-maker - has the ability to identify and understand issues, problems and opportunities, draw conclusions, and use effective approaches for developing appropriate solutions and choose a course of action. Proactively takes actions with available information, understanding the probable consequences.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proactive communication.
  • Ability to motivate, engage and drive team results, delegate work, and professionally hold yourself and others accountable in order to achieve goals and targeted results.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to take ownership of a project.
