Aug. 15--SHELBY --Defining a unique life of accomplishment and service is not easy, but many of the same active adjectives apply to three diverse women honored by the Cleveland County Commission for Women on Thursday. ||The Cleveland County Commission began the Distinguished Women Awards in 1992 to honor women who have made significant contributions to the lives of others and to the community. ||Honored at the 17th annual banquet at North Lake Country Club, Shirley Brutko of Kings Mountain and Daeira Roberts and Evelyn West of Shelby, named Cleveland County Distinguished Women for 2008, all were called "dedicated, determined, visionary, passionate," yet each has her own story.
