Assistant Throws Coach, Track & Field

Position Information

Serve as Assistant Men's and Women's Track & Field Coach under the direction of the Director (Head Coach) of Cross Country and Track & Field. Plan and conduct daily practice and competition schedule for the throwing event athletes including discus, hammer, javelin, shot put and weight throw. Travel for competition out of town for multiple meets approximately 12-16 days each year, including weekends. Identify and recruit qualified throws events student-athletes that can receive regular admission with the university. Assist the assistant coach in charge of meet management for all home track & field & cross country competitions. Comply with all NCAA and Big West conference rules and regulations; manage all compliance activities including NCAA Time Management, CARA logs, recruiting logs for throws event athletes.

Minimum Requirements

Specialized knowledge of the team sport or activity, as well as basic technical expertise in coaching principles.
Current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.
Demonstrated effective problem solving and communication skills, verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated sound judgment and decision-making.
Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making; be an effective problem solver and effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with athletic participants.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree, plus 2 to 3 years of NCAA Division I throws event coaching experience and an understanding of NCAA rules compliance, including a proven track record of developing student-athletes to a conference championship or national level

Experience working in a Division I Cross Country/Track & Field program
