Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Autonomous Engineering Department Managerto work in our Autonomous Engineering department. Our team works a 9x80 or 4x10 schedule located out of our MFC facility with every other Friday off.

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Department Manager to manage in our Autonomous Engineering department. The department focus on development of autonomous systems to enable automatic generation of 3D computer-aided design (CAD) models, automatic linkages to relevant engineering analysis codes, development of engineering digital thread technologies, and other technologies to provide automation capabilities for next generation power plant technologies. The department works closely internally with INL’s engineering divisions and externally with engineering procurement construction (EPC) firms to increase technological readiness of AI technologies applied to engineering.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage the activities of a department or a discipline through subordinate supervisors, exempt and non-exempt staff to ensure tasks completed are both aligned with organizational goals and empowering to the employees.
  • Responsible for single function, location, and technical discipline. Track progress and adjust plans to maximize talent deployment and development 
  • Provide guidance to your team within the latitude of established company policies.
  • Recommend changes to policies and establish procedures that affect department or multiple disciplines through monitoring and evaluations that lead to improvement implementation
  • Responsible for the effective operation of activities of major significance to our organization. Decisions impact others in the immediate team and influences methods and techniques.
  • Build financials, business planning, organizational priorities, and workforce. Ensure that budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set and attained.
  • Coordinate complex research priorities with other research supervisors within the facility to ensure expected timelines are met
  • Work with subordinate supervisors, customers, and functional peer group professionals, involving matters between sections and multiple units to build effective and collaborative teams.
  • Receive objective-based assignments and determine resources to meet schedules and goals. Ensure that those resources are integrated in the resource-loaded facility mission schedule.
  • Help develop overall goals and long-term goals of the department and help set the division goals.
  • Partner with important contacts outside own area of expertise and other external partners.
  • Present results and recommendations across departments.
  • You will report to the Director.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

  • BS and 8 years of relevant experience, or MS and 6 years of relevant experience, or PhD and 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Acceptable degrees will be in computer science, systems engineering, information sciences, data science, engineering, or related discipline and have knowledge of advanced nuclear energy systems.
  • You will have at least three years of experience as a group lead, team lead, and/or principal investigator of a larger research project (~$1M/year) 
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship. 


Job Information: 

  • The target pay range for this position is $123,735.00-$185,631.00 annually. The full pay range is $103,032.00 - $262,740.00. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • You are required to show a demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
