THE POSITION

Under the direct supervision of the Medical Director and a Consulting Licensed Clinical Social Worker, the Behavioral Health Specialist provides individual and group psychotherapy services to patients of Men’s Health Foundation and Southern California Men’s Medical Group.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list may not include all the duties assigned.)

  • Maintain an active caseload, including providing comprehensive assessments, charting progress notes and all documentation per contractual requirements.
  • Provides comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment for clients.
  • Provides individual, family, and group therapy using evidence-based psychotherapy interventions, and case management as needed.
  • Provides short – and long-term psychotherapy, as well as crisis intervention, for clients as needed.
  • Refer clients for psychiatric evaluation and treatment when clinically indicated. Collaborated with client’s health care team to facilitate continuity of care.
  • Provide appropriate referrals to ancillary programs as needed.
  • Provide 2 or more individual behavioral health counseling sessions to 75 YMSM of color annually
  • Develop and implement a Supportive Services Outreach plan to locate and engage new client and provide information on services; annual goals:
  • Screen 150 YMSM of color for behavioral health services annually Develop Mental Health services and develop support group curriculums.
  • Document client interactions, collect tracking data, and prepare monthly reports on program outcomes.
  • Represent Men’s Health Foundation at community events and meetings to recruit clients, identify resources, and build partnerships.
  • Collaborate with SoCal Club team members to create and execute recruitment and enrollment strategies and benchmarks to ensure enrollment goals per program.
  • Participate in program and organizational meetings and activities
  • Other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Be licensed to provide mental health services in the state of California (LCSW, LMFT, or other comparable licenses; or be registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as either an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW) or and Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, as well as meet other applicable requirements from the as approved the LA County Division of HIV and STD Programming.

  • Knowledge of community resources and the ability to assess client/family psychosocial needs
  • Two years of experience in a non-profit work environment provide direct client services. Excellent communication and organizational skills; strong written and interpersonal skills; commitment to working as part of a diverse, multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint). Bilingual/Spanish preferred.
  • Strong commitment to the Mission and Vision of Men’s Health Foundation Demonstrated ability to provide services to people of diverse races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, nationalities, economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, housing status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.

COMPANY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to pass a background check to include a 7-year criminal, 10-year SSN & employer history reference check.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to provide proof of current COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Must take yearly flu shot and test for tuberculosis as required by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 
  • Attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules.
  • Must have skills in research and development of operating policies and procedures. Must take yearly flu shot or wear flu mask during flu season for patient facing positions and test for tuberculosis as required by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Be able to work after hours and weekends
