Introduction
DEEP is seeking an enthusiastic and organized person to fill a seasonal role in a fast-paced environment. The Boating Division is responsible for boat launch maintenance and operations, navigation safety, and permitting activities that support the mission of the division.
The Boating Division has a statewide, seasonal Boat Launch and Navigation Safety Maintainer position available. The duty station of these positions is DEEP Marine Headquarters located at 333 Ferry Road, Old Lyme, CT, however, the job duties are field-oriented and duty stations are throughout the state.
The duration of the position is March 30-September 30;
- Schedule: 40 hours/week. Work hours are 8:00am-4:00pm Monday through Friday and 10:00am-6:00pm on weekends and Holidays;
- Must be at least 18 years old;
- Valid driver’s license required;
- Boating experience preferred.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, as a limited duration employee, performs one or more of a variety of tasks and assigned duties of a seasonal nature.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Performs general maintenance tasks at 117 state boat launch facilities owned by or under control of the department including but not limited to launch & dock repairs, painting, mowing lawns, raking, picking up trash, brush cutting, pruning, etc. Completing and assembling launch condition reports for state boat launches statewide; Construction and installation of signs and signboards; Line striping parking lots; Maintaining and replacing navigation aids and regulatory markers on Connecticut’s waterways; Work aboard agency boats; and Office work and miscellaneous duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Ability to follow instructions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must be able to work on weekends and holidays, have a driver's license, follow instructions, work independently, and be comfortable working at a boat launch or on-board a boat during the summer months. Maintaining or repairing docks, signs, signposts, sign boards and other boat launch features. Light maintenance at boat launches i.e. painting, removing garbage and pulling weeds. Knowledge of boating is a plus.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents in this class who are assigned as supervisors of small recreational units will perform emergency first aid as needed and will be required to obtain and retain a Basic First Aid Certificate.
- Incumbents in this class may be required for certain positions to meet any of the following:
- Proof of possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license.
- Possession of a valid license to apply pesticides.
- College training in a specific field.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification may be required by specific State facilities.
- Incumbents performing lifeguard services must have and retain an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding Certification (includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid). An EMT or MRT certification may be substituted for the CPR and First Aid requirements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class.
- Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
