As a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor within East Central Public Health District,you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.
Starting salary : $16.00

Georgia Department of Public Health Commissioner and leaders encourages all employees to engage in regular wellness activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and well-being. The use of wellness breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and assist employees in meeting their wellness goals. A maximum of 30-minutes in a given workday may be used to engage in wellness activities, generally in the form of two 15-minute breaks or one 30-minute break.

 

Job Responsibilities

Counsels and gives breastfeeding information and support to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, including telling them about the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers, and getting a good start with breastfeeding.
Helps breastfeeding mothers prevent and handle common breastfeeding concerns.
 Respects each client by keeping her information strictly confidential.
 Keeps accurate records of all contacts made with WIC clients.

This is a part-time, hourly position working up to 29 hours per week.
Peer Counselor positions are located in the Richmond County and may
travel to other counties within the East Central Health District as
assigned for Community Outreach.
This is not a remote position.
Positions will report to work in an assigned clinic.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and 6 months of experience in a related field.
Must have experience in breastfeeding at least one baby for a period of at least six months and has been or is currently a WIC participant.
Is enthusiastic about breastfeeding and wants to help other mothers enjoy a positive experience.
Has reliable transportation and holds a valid driver's license and drives independently.
Has good customer service skills, relating to persons of diverse ethnic and cultural background, and communication in a professional courteous and tactful manner.

  Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.
 
  DPH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degree, diploma, licensure, etc.
 
  The candidate selected for this position may be subject to pre-employment drug screening and a criminal background check.
