Calling all carpenters! We are hiring three (3) new carpenters for our team.

Step into a carpentry role that's anything but routine! We're seeking a skilled professional to handle a variety of structural and custom carpentry projects, from repairing existing buildings to installing new cabinets. Beyond the typical tasks, you'll be a first responder, evaluating and securing structures after disasters like windstorms or earthquakes. Multnomah County's Department of County Assets (DCA) Facilities and Property Management Division is seeking three Carpenters with demonstrated aptitude in skills including, but not limited to:

Interior Building Modifications:

  • Remove, repair, and construct walls using wood or metal framing.
  • Install drywall, mud, tape, apply fiberglass-reinforced panels and paint.
  • Install acoustical ceilings and drywall-wrapped ceilings.
  • Build and repair flooring, cabinets, counters, laminates, backsplashes, and interior finish carpentry (molding, trim, stairs, etc.).

Doors & Hardware:

  • Install, maintain, and repair wood/metal doors, frames, and hardware (door closers, locksets, hinges, ADA devices, etc.).
  • Maintain Fire-life and Safety egress, replace locks after hours, and repair correctional fixtures, gates, and doors.

Work Coordination:

  • Plan and organize work orders, estimate time/materials, and coordinate with other trades.
  • Review plans, order materials, and collaborate with managers, inspectors, and contractors.
  • Provide graffiti removal, inclement weather support, and building evaluations.

Exterior Modifications:

  • Repair, maintain, and build walls, decks, stairs, siding, windows, and roofs.
  • Assess leaks, flashing, caulking, waterproofing, and exterior painting.

General Exterior Projects:

  • Construct and finish concrete forms.
  • Install or repair fences, playground equipment, wooden signs, and marina fixtures.

Please note this position will require work within our correctional facilities with a possible alternative shift schedule.

To Qualify:

We will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills as qualifying unless an item or section is labeled required. Please be clear and specific about how your background is relevant.

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills:

  • Training and experience for journey level, trades classifications equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade

AND

  • Four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • A valid driver license
  • Must pass CJIS and DHS criminal background and reference checks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 year of Commercial or General Contractor Experience in Tenant Improvement
  • Public Sector Experience
  • Completion of an Apprenticeship Program

This recruitment may be used to fill full-time, part-time, temporary, limited duration and on-call positions.

Type of Position:This hourly union-represented position is eligible for overtime.

Location: 401 N Dixon St. Portland, OR 97227

Schedule: Monday - Friday Shifts begin between 6:00am - 9:00am and will be discussed with the manager.

Everyday, Multnomah County staff work together to serve as a safety net for our communities. During a disaster, this safety net becomes even more critical.
