About the Position
Alvernia University Department of Physical Therapy is uniquely positioned to seek an impassioned leader for the position of Department Chair (aka Program Director). Located in Reading, PA, Alvernia University is a teaching institution rooted in the Franciscan tradition of service, humility, peacemaking, contemplation, and collegiality.
The mission of the Alvernia University Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program is to pursue academic excellence in preparing the next generation of autonomous physical therapist clinicians. By challenging students to think critically, act professionally, and serve altruistically, the Program endeavors to develop graduates who are lifelong learners, reflective professionals, engaged citizens, and ethical leaders with moral courage. Graduates will be prepared to assume a leadership role in the ever-changing healthcare environment as Doctors of Physical Therapy who are committed to clinical competence and the application and perpetuation of evidence-based knowledge.
A qualified candidate would report to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences, collaborate with their interprofessional department peers, and provide visionary leadership to this established, accredited program. This individual would cultivate effective institutional, professional, community, and regulatory interfaces consistent with excellence in academic leadership as defined by ACAPT.
Qualified candidates must possess an academic doctoral degree, requisite experience, and be a licensed (or immediately eligible) physical therapist in the Commonwealth of PA. Specific duties and responsibilities of the position would include the ability to I) manage the Department of Physical Therapy, including faculty development, budget oversight, and allocation of resources; II) embrace effective communication, leadership, and advocacy; III) serve as core faculty within the program, engaged in teaching, scholarship and service; IV) oversee the continual assessment and improvement within admission and retention processes, clinical education, program curriculum and outcomes; V) conduct visionary and effective strategic planning congruent with university initiatives, contemporary practice, and educational marketplace demands.
