Job Summary
This part-time position will provide community health education classes to rural and underserved populations in the North Central Area Health Education Center (NC AHEC) 16-county service area.

Job Duties:
• Gives informal counseling and guidance on health behaviors.
• Advocates for individual and community health needs, and provides some direct services such as first aid and blood pressure screening.
• Promotes tobacco cessation and prevention services, and other health-related programs.
• Participates in community health education events, and all appropriate Area Health Education (AHEC) outreach events and programs.
• Provides basic health education through individual encounters and focus groups, community health presentations.
• Assess participants needs and concerns; as they relate to their family, their community and their health, and provide health information and education.
• Plans and leads group sessions and discussions on assigned health topics.
• Makes referrals/Shares community resources to family support, health, and social services agencies in the area.
• Attends conferences as directed and/or assigned.
• Assists in completing other programs goals and requirements/as needed.
• Promotes health professions programs at Gateway.
• Coordinates activities as directed.
• Report to Program Coordinator and Center Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bilingual, Spanish-English

• Ability to communicate clearly verbally and, in writing.
• Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and prioritize projects to meet deadlines with high levels of efficiency and accuracy.
• Must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate degree required, Bachelor degree preferred
2 - 5 years experience
Additional Skills Requested:
CPR and Frist Aid certification
