Position Summary:

The Teaching Assistant (TA) for the Contracts II course in the hybrid J.D. program provides academic and administrative support to the faculty member and serves as a resource for first-year law students navigating contract law in a self-paced, virtual format. The TA reinforces key legal concepts, supports student engagement, and helps maintain the smooth delivery of course content in a technology-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and respond to student questions on discussion boards, class forums, and messaging platforms within a 24–48 hour window.
  • Provide individualized academic support to students via email, scheduled virtual meetings, and weekly virtual office hours.
  • Assist the professor in developing or updating asynchronous content, such as video lectures, quizzes, and hypotheticals.
  • Offer feedback on formative assessments, discussion posts, and practice problems, as permitted by the professor and academic policies.
  • Track student engagement and flag participation or performance concerns to the professor.
  • Lead periodic live virtual review sessions or Q&A meetings via Zoom or similar platforms.
  • Provide logistical support with course technology (e.g., LMS setup, video uploads, captioning).
  • Maintain confidentiality of student communications and performance within the course.

Qualifications:

  • 2L, 3L, or recent J.D. from a Cal or ABA-accredited law school, with a strong academic record in Contracts.
  • Excellent written communication and legal analysis skills.
  • Comfort with online learning platforms (e.g., Canvas, Zoom).
  • Ability to manage time effectively, work independently, and maintain a high level of professionalism in a remote environment.
  • Experience in online or hybrid education preferred but not required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with asynchronous pedagogy and adult learning strategies.
  • Proficiency with the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) and the Restatement (Second) of Contracts.
  • Experience creating outlines, flowcharts, or other visual study aids.
  • Tech-savviness and comfort troubleshooting basic LMS issues.

This opportunity is budgeted at $$2067 per course base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
