Overview

The Research Core Infrastructure Engineer - plans, designs, implements, and supports the integration and requirements of one or more Server/Application systems. They also act as architects for non-technical people, gathering requirements, and turning them into working systems and services. The Research Core Infrastructure Engineer will initiate projects and provide direction to leadership on technical matters. Identifies what needs to be done and acts before being asked to or required by the situation. The Core Infrastructure Engineer creates and implements Infrastructure systems and services and provides Tier III support to Children's Mercy's Research Institute Infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the design, selection, and implementation of Core Infrastructure systems technologies:
    • By maintaining a high level of technical competency, keeping up-to-date on current issues and trends surrounding infrastructure systems, and through the periodic reevaluation of current methods to identify possible areas for improvement.
    • Evaluate and recommend new hardware and software to support on expanding infrastructure and be responsible for system capacity planning.

  • Creates and maintains accurate documentation:
    • Prepares documentation for servers, systems, projects, and connections including drawings, diagrams, baselines, detailed change management documentation, instruction sheets, best practices, and security settings.

  • Manages the overall health and performance of the Core Infrastructure:
    • Administering and maintaining the hardware and software systems that make up the Core Infrastructure. This includes activities such as the deployment, configuration, and maintenance and monitoring of active networked equipment; utilizes tools, techniques, and experience to resolve network issues with prompt, complete, and courteous service.
    • Proactively monitors health of systems/assignments and takes corrective action when issues are discovered.

  • Provide friendly, concise, and informed technical support for Information Systems staff, network users, hospital staff, patients, and the public:
    • Uses technical and communication skills to provide project assistance and technology solutions. Serves as an expert technical resource by advising and assisting departments with network systems related issues
    • An infectious, positive attitude

  • Maintains technical competency:
    • Reviews news sources and other technical content for relevant information; attending seminars and training pursuant to maintaining a knowledge of technologies in use at the hospital and working with other teams within the hospital to maintain knowledge of systems and applied practices

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years experience. This is a technical position requiring the ability to make decisions based upon the analysis of complex systems which can only be developed through post-secondary education or extensive experience in the field.
  • HS diploma or equivalent and 7 or more years experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) Preferred
  • Nutanix Certified Associate (NCA) Preferred
  • Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Experience:

  • Intermediate level knowledge and experience with systems engineering duties including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Cisco UCS, system component/application installs and patch management
  • Have strong understanding in at least several of the following areas: Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Nutanix Virtualization, Enterprise Storage (NetApp/Pure), Data Protection, Monitoring, and infrastructure services such as Apache, Tomcat, DNS, Proxy, LDAP/AD, NTP and others.
  • Basic fluency of DevOps, Lean, and Agile methodologies and practices.
  • Infrastructure automation and deployment methodologies; Infrastructure as Code; Azure DevOps Pipelines; Red Hat Satellite; Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform/AWX
  • Intermediate system scripting knowledge (PowerShell, Bash, Python)

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $41.57/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is entirely remote or work-from-home. The person hired must live in the Kansas City metro area and may attend on-site meetings, as scheduled.
