Job Summary

UK’s International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) assists with the compliance needs of approximately 2,000 international students and scholars. ISSS is reliant upon sunapsis, an applications system developed by Indiana University and available for use by universities nationwide. Sunapsis enables universities to remain compliant with DHS’s Student and Exchange Visitor’s Information System (SEVIS) requirements to host international student and scholars.

The Applications Support/Database Management Specialist is the primary applications support/database manager for the University of Kentucky’s International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS).

As the primary applications support the various immigration-related processes at the university, the Applications Support/Database Management Specialist will serve as one of 6 Designated School Officials (DSOs) and Alternate Responsible Officers (AROs) with access to SEVIS. Experience and knowledge within a higher educational setting and experience with F-1 and J-1 visa status regulations as established by DHS/SEVIS is essential for this position.

Position also requires technical knowledge of SQL Microsoft systems, ColdFusion (or related language) and experience in multi-tiered web, DB and client server applications, preferably with the sunapsis international case management software. In addition, the candidate must have recent application development experience in a production environment using a server-side object-oriented language (e.g. ColdFusion). Programming experience with client-side web development (HTML5, and CSS) for production deployments. Strong technical skills and programming experience with Front-end framework. Experience with writing SQL queries and scripts.

Requires some education and experience in programming, software development, database applications support, or related combination of education and experience. Position is a “Senior” level position and requires a minimum of an (MS+3 or BS+5).

Preferred Education/Experience

MS + 3 years experience or Bachelor’s plus 5 years experience. Experience within a higher educational setting or experience with F-1 and J-1 visa status regulations as established by DHS/SEVIS.

Eligibility to obtain SEVIS certification.
