Summary/Objective:
The Director of Content Strategy & Operations will work closely with the VP, Digital Marketing department head, to oversee all content strategies and operations across the Academy and Academy Museum digital channels. This role ensures the department is on time, on budget, and on brand. Attention to detail, big picture thinking, and proactive leadership are essential qualities of the role. This position involves supervising the development and execution of all digital content strategies, overseeing department project management and content calendars to ensure timelines are met, supporting organic and paid social campaigns, data reporting on the department’s digital initiatives, and ensuring all efforts align with the brand's goals and objectives.
This role is essential for driving the Academy’s digital marketing vision and strategy forward, ensuring that our digital presence is innovative, engaging, data driven, and aligned with our organizational goals.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Big Picture Thinking
- Responsible for the overarching creative and strategic vision for The Academy, Oscars, and Academy Museum social channels.
- Key support to the Digital Marketing department head to oversee creative, strategy, and project management of all teams within digital marketing: social media, paid social media, video production, and beyond.
Team Leadership
- Lead a team of managers, providing professional development and guidance to delegate the creation and execution of strategy, digital and influencer marketing, paid social, and reporting across channels.
Adaptability and Crisis Communication
- Think quickly, adapt to organizational priorities, and handle crisis communication when necessary.
Trend Monitoring
- Stay updated with evolving digital landscapes and new technologies, monitoring industry trends to inform creative and strategic decisions.
Collaboration
- Work closely with social and video/media teams within the digital marketing department to ensure cohesive and data-driven creative content.
Global Content Calendar
- Oversee the department's global content calendar and monthly calendar review meeting, ensuring that the team is updating regularly and accurately.
- Proactively plug in relevant dates or upcoming series that the teams should be aware of and work with direct reports to ensure it is consistently up to date.
Reporting
- Oversee and collaborate with teams to provide consistent and ongoing data reports, ensuring the creation of effective content that expands our reach.
Organic & Paid Social
- Oversee content strategy and data analysis over organic and paid social campaigns. This role is the day-to-day partner with our paid media agency.
Budget
- Support the department budget tracking and oversee invoice processing and delegation with members of the team.
Oscars
- Manage the Oscars War Room and all Oscars Sponsored Content requirements, having oversight to organize, delegate, and assign roles and responsibilities as needed.
- Be an active partner with ABC during Oscars season; organize, delegate, and assign roles and responsibilities as needed.
Copywriting Expertise
- Craft compelling copy tailored to each platform, adjusting tone and differentiating content based on platform-specific purposes and audience preferences.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- The position will manage two direct reports, including the Manager of Influencer Marketing & Content Strategy and the Manager of Digital Marketing.
Required Competencies:
- A college degree required.
- 5-10 years of content strategy and operations experience, with a preference for high-profile brands; experience in the entertainment industry is a plus.
- Proven expertise in project management, overseeing content creation and execution across multiple teams and departments.
- Budget management experience, including tracking and allocating resources for digital campaigns and content operations.
- Strong proficiency in logistics, operations, and coordinating large-scale projects and events.
- Experience with social media management, including both organic and paid social campaigns.
- Proven ability to manage and mentor a team, fostering growth and collaboration within the department.
- Extensive experience in cross-functional collaboration, working closely with internal teams (e.g., social media, video production) and external partners (e.g., agencies, influencers).
- Ability to adapt quickly and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in high-stakes or crises, with a focus on clear and effective communication.
- Detail-oriented with a strategic mindset, able to balance day-to-day execution with long-term planning.

Hybrid Requirement: All Academy positions require a minimum of 2 days per week of in-person work at an Academy Location. Exceptions: Positions requiring daily in-person presence (ex. Front-line staff, staff who need to deal with materials on-site, etc.) and medical and religious accommodations approved by the Office of People & Culture.
Compensation: The expected salary range for this role is $110,000.00 - $123,000.00. The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.)
