As an Economic Support Counselor within The Living Bridge at the Georgia Department of Public Health,you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting the lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Location: The Living Bridge (Ryan White Clinic) in Gainesville, GA.

Job Responsibilities

Under supervision, interviews and investigates applicants and recipients to determine eligibility for use of social programs and agency resources. Records and evaluates personal and financial data obtained from individuals. Initiates procedures to grant, modify, deny, or terminate eligibility for various aid programs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conducts annual, interim, and special housing reviews and home visits to ensure compliance.
  • Determines initial or continuing eligibility for social services programs.
  • Explains eligibility requirements, form completion, community resources for assistance, housing opportunities, and selection methods.
  • Facilitates client access to community resources, including housing, food, clothing, school programs, vocational opportunities or services.
  • Initiates procedures to grandy, modify, deny, or terminate eligibility and grants for various programs.
  • Interviews, assesses, and investigates applicants for public assistance to gather information pertinent to their application.
  • Locates and develops resources for families and/or applicants. 
  • Prepares and assists applicants in completion of routine intake forms.
  • Prepares regular and special reports, keeps records of assigned cases, and submits individual recommendations.
  • Processes applications and/or reviews using appropriate criteria and policies consistently and according to established guidelines.  
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of job-related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Experience providing enrollment services, eligibility services, or assistance obtaining government services.
  • Experience in the medical field or in nursing services.
  • Experience in the insurance field.
  • Experience in a high pressure and very time sensitive environment.

Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.

CBH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered.

All positions require criminal history record check. Required education credentials, license, certification and/or registration must be submitted prior to employment in the position. Some positions require pre-employment drug testing in which the applicant who is offered the position will be required to successfully complete.
