Under the direction of the NSF, IUSE Grant Principal Investigator and in collaboration with the project team including Holyoke Community College, Western New England University, and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, we invite applications for the position of Engineering Pathway Coordinator (EPC). The EPC will work 18.5 hours per week with HCC faculty and staff to recruit students into a newly established engineering certificate program, build relationships with industry partners, establish student internships, identify research opportunities and strengthen high school and adult basic education student pathways into engineering careers.  Project work will focus on increasing the number of diverse candidates entering the field of engineering.  

  • Work one-on-one with students in the engineering certificate program to facilitate retention in the program, including progress throughout coursework and internship placements. 
  • Recruit students into the Engineering Certificate program, working directly with local high schools and adult basic education programs. 
  • Work with college admissions, marketing and academic departments to develop specific content targeting recruitment into this program. 
  • Establish relationships with local high schools, adult basic education programs, and area STEM employers in the development of an engineering recruitment and training pipeline.
  • Support and work in collaboration with the project team to develop industry internships and identify research experience opportunities. 
  • Ensure adequate and proper reporting of data; compile and track information necessary for required report submissions to assist PI’s. 
  • Attend all project meetings, work collaboratively with the HCC team, IR, Grants, and the Business Office.
  • Maintains confidentiality and professionalism in all activities.
  • Submits all expenditures and reporting as required by the college.
  • Performs special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested.

REQUIRED:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM related field; 
  • Excellent organizational skills; 
  • Familiarity and experience with STEM initiatives; 
  • Knowledge of diversity; 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, especially in working as part of a team; 
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body; 
  • Proficiency with Google Suite; 
  • Program management skills.

PREFERRED:   
  • Master’s degree in STEM field; 
  • Community college and K-14 work experience; 
  • Experience working with diverse students particularly those marginalized in STEM fields; 
  • Experience with campus and statewide STEM initiatives; 
  • Knowledge of HCC and/or state budgets; 
  • Knowledge of grant management; 
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.

Part-Time, Non-Benefited, MCCC unit position

MCCC Title:  Sr. Community Outreach Coordinator

Salary:   $32.64/hour

Hours:    18.5 hrs./week; 12 month position 

Funding Source: National Science Foundation - IUSE Grant (4 year grant)

- All candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States. HCC is not sponsoring H1B Visa.
