Supervision Received: The Enterprise Systems Administrator reports to the Associate Director of Administrative Systems.
Supervision Exercised: None
Salary: $55,000.00 to $65,000.00 Annually (salary commensurate with education and experience)

General Statement of Duties:

The Enterprise Systems Administrator assists both the Associate Director of Administrative Systems and the Database Administrator in the planning, building, maintaining server operating systems and web application systems for campus use. The Enterprise Systems Administrator ensures all systems remain reliable and secure.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include but not limited to:
Essential:
  • Responsible for the installation and configuration of Linux operating systems using best practices to maintain overall system reliability and security.
  • Regularly applies patches and updates to ensure security and stability.
  • Implement firewalls, user access controls and security policy to safeguard systems.
  • Manages the installation and upgrades of software on servers.
  • Works with the Database administration to plan and manage the secure backup and restore procedures of all systems and data.
  • Responsible for the administration of virtual systems, including back up and restore operations.
  • Diagnosing and resolving issues that impact system performance.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory of all administrative systems and hardware.
  • Assist in the management of shared network storage.
  • Assist in the purchase of software and hardware that supports administrative computing.
  • Manage automation software for administrative systems.
  • Develop and modify processes to automate programs and tasks using shell scripting and existing tools.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation on all backup and restore procedures and periodically test backup media to ensure stability.
  • Maintain off-site tape library of the backup media that is fully documented.
  • Plan and monitor server hardware environments and power supply.
  • Support the Database Administrator and respond at times when they are unavailable.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably with an information technology discipline.
  • Two or more years of professional experience with Linux systems administration.
  • Advanced Unix/Linux shell scripting skills.
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively with the user community.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with VMWare, Red Hat Linux, VEEAM
  • Higher Education Experience
  • Tomcat Server Experience
  • Ellucian Software Experience
  • Oracle Systems Experience

Salary:

Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies.
