Summary/Objective:

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is seeking an organized, enthusiastic intern to assist the Education and Public Engagement and Film Programs teams. The intern will assist with creating and implementing a robust calendar of museum programming around upcoming and current exhibitions as well as exploring and engaging with the art, history, and filmmaking of cinema. Areas of programming will focus on public programs, workshops, and gallery discussions, as well as the museum’s film programs that include ongoing screenings, limited series dedicated to experimental and independent film, and films programmed to accompany planned exhibitions.


To support this work, the intern will be involved with a wide range of activities including the design and creation of visitor-focused activities, assisting in planning Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility initiatives within youth, family, and in-gallery programs, and conducting thematic, title, and filmmaker-specific research. Other responsibilities include assisting with print sourcing, writing screening notes, and other public programs preparation, as needed. Candidates should possess excellent writing, research, and organizational skills, and keen attention to detail.


Upon completion, the intern will better understand best practices and approaches to museum education as well as work collaboratively to plan and implement museum programming for diverse audiences.


This is a limited-term internship position beginning in June 2025 through August 2025. The hourly wage for this role is $17.87.


Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Support the design and creation of public engagement by assisting the department in planning out Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion work around public programs, as well as assisting in-gallery and youth and family activities with archival research through the Academy Film Archive, Margaret Herrick Library, and other outside sources.
  • Conduct thematic, title, and filmmaker-specific research; assisting with print sourcing; writing screening notes; and other public programs preparation, as needed.
  • Assist with creating and implementing a robust calendar of ongoing and new museum programming that includes public engagement and film screenings around the upcoming Jaws exhibitions and current exhibitions.
  • Assist with administrative duties and office support. This includes assisting with logistical arrangements for visiting filmmakers and artists, as well as limited print traffic handling.

Required Competencies:

  • B.A. (in progress) in film studies, ethnic studies, media studies, world history, art history, museum studies, curatorial studies, or related fields are welcome to apply. Previous museum experience is not necessary for this internship.
  • Community college students and undergrads interested in gaining museum-related experience are encouraged to apply.

Physical Demands:

  • If in-person work is possible during the internship, you must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of more than 2 hours and move up to 25 lbs.
