Salary:$75,000-$85,000 per year

Schedule:Full-time; Monday-Friday; Hybrid work environment

The HR Generalist is responsible for providing excellent internal and external customer service. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and organized with knowledge of HR compliance, employment and payroll laws, the ability to meet deadlines and deliverables, and able to effectively communicate and build relationships with employees and managers. This role will have a large focus on leave of absence administration, ADA reasonable accommodation requests, and workplace injury compliance & safety.

HR Generalist Responsibilities:

Leaves of Absence & Reasonable Accommodation Administration (40%)

  • Process and track leave of absence requests.
  • Communicate protected leave information and legal requirements to employees and managers.
  • Ensure applicable laws and regulations are followed.
  • Engage in the interactive process for ADA/Accommodation related requests.
  • Oversee employee arrears balances and invoicing alongside Accounting team.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with our leave management systems and contacts.
  • Collaborate with Employee Relations team and HR Leadership on overlap areas such as performance, undue hardships, etc.

Workplace Injuries, Safety, & Accident Prevention (20%)

  • Oversees Incident Reports in HRIS.
  • Communicates with Managers on injuries, hazards, and accident prevention.
  • Serves as the primary liaison with our third-party WA L&I Claims Administrator and OR Worker’s Comp Insurance Carrier
  • Ensures applicable laws and regulations are followed.
  • Educates managers on the Stay at Work Program, Light Duty requirements, and job protections.
  • Oversees KOS payments and entries in timekeeping system, when applicable.
  • Serves on Thrive’s Safety Committee & manages monthly meeting minutes/distribution.
  • Assists with Safety Manual/Accident Prevention Program updates, as needed.
  • Oversees the generation of Light Duty job assignments and aims to reduce work related injuries and associated costs.
  • Oversees timely completion of mandated Quarterly WA L&I reporting and Annual OSHA/BLS reporting.
  • Ensures accurate Worker’s Comp rates are updated in HRIS annually.
  • Verify annual OR worker’s comp insurance updates with Accounting.

Benefits Administration (15%)

  • Assists with Open Enrollment Communications, as needed.
  • Maintains up to date benefits information on Thrive Connect and ExponentHR.
  • Assists with auditing and reviewing benefits invoices.
  • Oversees approvals of new hire benefit enrollment and mid-plan year life events.
  • Administers Admin Overrides for late benefits adds, when applicable.

HR Compliance (15%)

  • Maintains knowledge of current employment/payroll laws and practices.
  • Oversees reverifications of expiring work authorization documents.
  • Responds to employment & income verification requests by directing to our third party administrator.
  • Orders Labor Law posters for new properties and annually for all properties.
  • Administers unemployment claims and attends unemployment hearings, as needed.
  • Assists with monitoring HR and Payroll shared inboxes.
  • Builds relationships with managers and Regional team through in person connections and/or calls.

HRIS and Payroll Support & Other Duties as Assigned (10%)

  • Assist with processing bi-weekly payroll batches, as needed.
  • Assist with entering or approving employee transactions in HRIS, as needed (Ex: transfers, pay rate changes, etc.).
  • Assist with garnishment and child support administration, as needed.
  • Assist with reviewing, scanning, distributing, and filing HR mail, as needed.
  • Assist with processing payroll corrections, as needed, including voids/rebuilds, off-cycle payroll batches, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • HR Certificate such as a PHR or SHRM-CP.
  • 2+ years experience in Human Resources.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associate’s Degree in human resources, business, or another related field, or transferrable skills necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Property management industry knowledge and/or experience.
  • Proficient in Smartsheet and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of key federal, state, and local laws and regulations such as FMLA, WA Paid Family Medical Leave, OR OFLA, Oregon Paid Leave, ADA, HIPPA/PHI, FLSA, etc.

  • Demonstrated relationship-building skills with associates at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently while working effectively as part of a broader team.
  • Ability to use critical thinking to discern priorities personally and for the department.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to travel locally (Greater Seattle Area) for events or meetings (30-40%).
  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds, on occasion.
  • Hybrid work environment with option to work 100% at Home Office in Seattle, WA.
