Position Information

Hiring Department: Facilities

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday- Friday 6:00am- 2:30pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends

FLSA status: Non-exempt

Earliest Start Date: 8/1/2024

Salary: Commensurate with experience and education.

A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides, and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.



Purpose of Position

Supervises, plans, assigns, inspects, instructs and coordinates the work of assigned irrigation personnel. Designs, calculates, plans, and installs all irrigation systems including the maintenance and repair of those systems.

Essential Functions

Designs, calculates, plans and performs irrigation system layouts.

Installs, repairs, and maintains various types of irrigation systems and related components such as sprinkler controls, time clocks, and heads and valves using a variety brands and materials.

Troubleshoots to locate defects in electrical and sprinkler time clock systems and make necessary repairs.

Installs wiring on valves and clocks.

Revamps sprinkler systems to conform to government codes.

Installs, test and repairs backflow devices.

Instructs and assists ground personnel with repairs and installations.

Orders and installs parts for various types of irrigation systems.

Brazes, solders, cuts, and threads pipe and tubing of various types.

Implements water conservation initiatives by recommending and prioritizing upgrades and replacements of systems.

Assists in budget preparation for water conservation, regular maintenance and repair or irrigation systems.

Generates and maintains appropriate logs, records, and inventory of irrigation systems.

Oversees planning and implementation of quality control functions to assure that proper methods are used and standards are met.

Provides training and orientation to new employees and ongoing developmental training for shop employees.

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED

and

Experience: Five years of experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a Texas Irrigation License. Knowledge of tools, machinery, materials, and procedures to maintain irrigation systems, government codes and regulations pertaining to irrigation and plumbing systems, plumbing and electrical systems and procedures related, but not limited to, sprinkler

systems and time clocks, water conservation techniques, integrated, environmentally safe pest management practices. Ability to use tools and equipment in a safe manner, establish a preventive maintenance program for sprinkler systems, and work from blueprints and specifications.

May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment to include Steel toe or non-slippery shoes, rubber or leather gloves, eye protection, ear protection, rubber boots, coveralls, sunglasses, and straw hat.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed wet and humid conditions and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat and vibration.

The noise level for this work environment is usually moderate.
