Overview:

Reporting to Lab Director/CEO and Technical Supervisor, the Lab Manager is responsible for operations and supervision of Laboratory personnel. Accountable for keeping the Lab Director/CEO and Technical Supervisor of all laboratory testing issues and needs, instrument status and content/accuracy of testing data and results.

Responsibilities are: (This list may not include all the duties assigned.) 

  • Pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical testing of all complexities as defined by Clinical     Laboratory improvement Act/Amendment (CLIA) and State of California.
  • The accuracy, reliability and timeliness of patient test results used for the diagnosis, management, and treatment of patients.
  • Ensuring maintenance of equipment, inventory and supplies by establishing operations and troubleshooting procedures and ensuring staff compliance. Placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies and keeping track of supply costs.
  • Writing and updating all laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) including off-site laboratories.
  • Monitoring routine laboratory functions, corrective actions and improving laboratory service including off site laboratories. 
  • Maintaining all laboratory licenses for Men’s health foundation including off site laboratories.   
  • Devising and maintaining Quality assurance and Quality Control programs and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Recruiting, selecting, orienting and training laboratory staff and the necessary competency evaluations.
  • Developing quality metrics and reporting findings on a quarterly basis to department managers and CMO.
  • Acting as a backup in any area of daily laboratory operations.
  • Keeping abreast of new technical developments and assisting with implementing new tests, equipment, programs, and procedures as needed.
  • Fostering a unified culture and facilitating collaboration, cooperation, sharing of information, and teamwork.
  • Reporting Proficiency testing, quality control results to appropriate agencies
  • Maintaining laboratory productivity by monitoring workload of functional areas; identifying peak and slack periods; making operational or staffing adjustments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license required. 
  • ASCP Board of Registry certification as Medical Technologist is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in biology or related science.
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory required
