Physical Requirements

This position will require the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time as well occasionally standing or walking with objects up to 10 pounds and push or pull objects over 50 pounds.



Shift

Mainly day shift from 10a-630p with shift flexibility dependent on patient flow and department need. Occasional weekends. May include call based on needs of the department.



Job Summary

The Laboratory Scientist/Certified/UKHC will be responsible for performing laboratory testing in a fast-paced academic medical center.

The Laboratory provides services to all aspects of the Level I trauma center and throughout the healthcare enterprise, including solid organ and bone marrow transplant, KY Children’s Hospital, and Markey Cancer Center. This position, located in the Cell Therapy Lab, will process, evaluate, preserve, store, and thaw cell therapy products vital to hemopoietic stem cell transplant patient recovery and survival. Cell therapy products include bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cells, and therapeutic cells.

The Laboratory Scientist will be expected to function within compliance standards and have a high quality approach. This position will also provide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers and have the ability to help update and evolve the procedures within the laboratory. This CAP and FACT Accredited Laboratory at the University of Kentucky utilizes good tissue practice (GTP). The Laboratory Services department has a variety of specialties and areas. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Exceptional customer service, excellent technical skills, detail oriented, and collaboration skills with different positions across the hospital. Other skills include Microsoft Office knowledge and proficient writing ability, hospital electronic systems, knowledge of medical terminology, and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Preferred Education/Experience

Three or more years of experience in a clinical laboratory preferred. Knowledge of hematology, immunology, and/or blood banking, including processing and/or cryopreservation concepts and practices preferred.
