Job Summary

The School of Information Science in the College of Communication and Information at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in the Library and Information Science Program with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2025.



Qualifications & Responsibilities:

Duties include teaching four courses per semester. We seek a candidate with teaching experience in information organization, information search/reference services, library instructional services, health librarianships, archival studies, or other areas of library practice. Candidates will also be encouraged to develop new courses in their areas of expertise.


The nine-month appointment begins formally on August 16, 2025, and ends on May 15, 2026; however, some preparation work will begin on August 1st, 2025. The initial term for lecturers is for one year. The appointment may be renewed for additional terms based on the program needs, funding ability, and candidate performance. A master’s degree in library and information science and professional experience are required. A Ph.D. in Library and Information Science is preferred.

The School of Information Science offers two online master’s degrees (library science and information communication technology), an undergraduate major in information communication technology (including an online degree completion component), and an online minor in information studies. Additionally, the School of Information Science includes the Instructional Communication and Research group, which teaches university core courses in multi-modal communication to incoming students. The School boasts an impressive cadre of internationally recognized faculty who are recipients of multiple prestigious awards and fellowships.

The College of Communication and Information comprises two schools (School of Information Science and School of Journalism and Media), two departments (Department of Communication and Department of Integrated Strategic Communication), and interdisciplinary master’s and PhD programs. Nearly 100 full-time faculty lead 2,300 undergraduate majors and 350 graduate students while also teaching in the university’s core curriculum and serving students pursuing minors and certificates in the college. The college also houses University of Kentucky’s independent student newspaper, The Kentucky Kernel, and the championship winning Intercollegiate Debate program.
