UIW Mission


Position Summary
The Maintenance/ Electrician position is responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing various electrical equipment and infrastructure on UIW campuses. Position is part of Facilities Management Department and reports to the Master Electrician Supervisor.

Essential Functions


Job Duties


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of general practices of electrical trade and safety.
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools common to the electrical trade, meters, and other test equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, boom lift, and scissor lift.
  • Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate well with others and to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently and in group setting.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.


Required Education
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Required Work Experience
Three (3) or more years of appretice experiance experience with commercial/industrial electrican.
Must test for Journeyman licence with in the 12 months.
Must achive Journeyman licence with in 24 months.

Preferred Qualifications
Associate's Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical trade school in electrical field.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
  • Must have apprentice log hours, applicable -————-
  • Must possess a valid driver license at time of hire; must maintain license as a condition of employment; must be 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.
  • Have a Current Texas Commercial Driver's license “A” or “B” or ability to acquire one within the first six months of employment.


Work Hours
Monday trough Friday 8 am to 5 pm. However, hours may be adjusted to respond to emergency calls, shift work, overtime, and other university needs.On-call rotation for evenings, weekends, and holidays is required.

Physical Demands
  • Utilize/wear Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Exposure to variable Texas weather conditions and/or physical hazards common to a physical plant and construction environment such as elevated and confined spaces. Works in attics, sub-floors, trenches, machine rooms and other occupational areas.
  • Exposed to mechanical, electrical, plumbing or other hazards including biological and chemical hazards within certain laboratory spaces.
  • Must have good hearing to hear safety alarms and sirens.
  • Must be able to climb, kneel, crouch, or crawl, as well as work while balancing on ladders, scaffolding, and building rooftops.
  • Must be able to regularly lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
