The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT), is accepting applications for paid Maintenance and Repair Seasonal Worker positions within the Bureau of Highway Operations. Positions will be based in District Offices and Maintenance Garages across the state!
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
- Monday - Friday, First shift
- 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week
- Anticipated start date in May of 2025 and ending by August 30, 2025.
- Dist. 1: Windsor, Willington, East Windsor, Meriden, Southington, Glastonbury
- Dist. 2: Putnam, Waterford, East Great Plains (Norwich)
- Dist. 3: Trumbull, North Haven, New Canaan
- Dist. 4: Southbury, Winsted (Winchester), Thomaston, Litchfield
THE ROLE
As a Maintenance Seasonal Worker, you will have the opportunity to explore career paths and obtain valuable paid work experience in the maintenance field. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required and must be maintained. Duties for Maintenance Seasonal Workers may include:
General Maintenance:
- Outdoor work including landscaping activities, grounds upkeep, weed whacking, raking, planting, digging, assisting tree crews with wood/debris removal.
- May receive training in and assist in performing semi-skilled maintenance and/or construction work including, but not limited to, rough carpentry, painting, masonry, minor electrical, and mechanical.
- Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and maximum hourly rates will be subject to the following criteria:
- Returning Seasonal Workers may receive $.50 an hour additional compensation for each season of service up to the maximum hourly rate.
OR
- Experienced workers in the specific functional area with another employer may be credited with such time on an equivalent basis to seasons worked and granted the same additional compensation up to the maximum hourly rate.
OR
- Undergraduate or graduate students may be granted additional compensation of up to $.50 more per hour (up to the maximum hourly rate) for each full year of completed education on the basis of 30 semester hours equaling one (1) year.
NOTE: Determination of hourly rate is based on the above criteria. Additional compensation is based on only one criterion. It is not intended for individuals to receive additional compensation through application of the multiple criteria listed above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any experience and training that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
General Maintenance:
- Experience in landscaping or grounds upkeep
- Experience using light power equipment to perform landscaping and maintenance duties
- Experience performing semi-skilled maintenance or work in carpentry, painting, electrical, and/or mechanical areas
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents in this class assigned to recreational activities must be able to perform emergency first aid as needed and certain positions will require a current Standard First Aid Certificate.
- Incumbents in this class assigned as bus drivers or operators of a motor vehicle must possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator License to drive a bus and/or a Motor Vehicle Operators License as necessary.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
