About the role:

Responsible for energy systems electrical design, firmware development and integration to complement forklift design requirements, associated industry standards for new and existing products. Support development of the next generation/ emerging energy storage systems, electrical layouts, controller development and integration. Act as a liaison between engineering, connected systems departments and service team. Lead and coordinate all energy system related PCB layouts, fuel cell and battery management systems. Provide support for the development of firmware to communicate with truck controllers, chargers, telematics and Battery management systems. Troubleshooting, issue tracking and resolution on any current or future energy system related field service requests

What you will do:

  • Lead development of Firmware architecture in collaboration with truck design teams and energy systems team for battery management systems, truck controllers and for charger communication etc.
  • Develop the electrical systems inside the battery, develop firmware or software which goes inside the control modules, then test that firmware or software to make sure that the overall functionality of the battery is working properly
  • Lead development of harnesses, prototypes and conduct rigorous testing to validate electrical systems, ensuring system functionality to meet performance and safety standards
  • Design and develop various energy system related components and sub-systems. This may include development of control systems, mechanical and electrical layouts
  • Ensure cross functional engagement by working with internal groups like new product development, test, quality, purchasing, sales etc. to optimize processes and develop new systems
  • Work with suppliers to communicate requirements, optimize deliverables and apply the latest technology
  • Support the development of risk and safety analysis documentation, FTA (Fault Tree Analysis), and SFMEA, DFMEA (System, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
  • Troubleshooting, issue tracking and resolution of electrical system issues and implementing effective solutions to improve system reliability and efficiency


When & Where:

  • 10%-20% Travel
  • Hybrid schedule
  • Will require this position to reside near our Marengo, Illinois location
  • The work is primarily done in an office environment with other work locations including development lab, manufacturing line, and field locations such as customer facilities


What you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical. Systems or related field of study)
  • 5+ years of experience in energy systems, systems design and power systems
  • Must possess working knowledge of firmware development, proficiency in electrical circuit design and analysis
  • Experienced in constructing complex project schedules involving timelines, manpower and resources
  • Demonstrable experience in energy storage solutions, controls systems design or evaluation. Experience with CANBus protocols and testing
  • Familiarity of circuit design CAD tools like Altium, KiCAD, orCAD etc. and simulation tools like SPICE etc.
  • Should have working experience with electrical instruments like oscilloscope, power supplies, signal generators etc., and CAN tools like CANalyzer
  • Able to read & create electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, use 3D CAD systems, and troubleshoot electrical circuits
  • Microsoft office suite of tools. Basic electrical, mechanical tool usage along with battery cyclers


What would be nice to have:

  • Experience with firmware architecture design and development
  • Experience with battery management systems and fuel cell technologies
  • Experience with electrical and firmware testing, troubleshooting and issue resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate and take initiatives to drive process improvements activities
  • Hands-on experience with design and testing of power electronics, electric motors, controllers, converters, etc.
  • Experience with Firmware integration on electrical sub systems

The salary for this position ranges from $94,500 to $135,000 annually. The specific salary for a successful candidate will depend upon, among other legitimate factors, education, training, and/or experience.
