About the role:
Responsible for Energy systems design, development and testing to complement forklift design requirements, associated industry standards for new and existing products. Support development of the next generation/ emerging energy storage systems, charging protocols and evaluate various energy system suppliers and developing partnerships. Act as a liaison to engineering, connected systems departments and service team. Lead and coordinate all energy system related testing efforts and truck integrations. Provide support for the development of firmware requirements to communicate with truck controllers, charger communications, telematics and Battery management systems. Troubleshooting, issue tracking and resolution on any current or future energy system related field service requests.
What you will do:
- Create Firmware requirements in collaboration with truck design teams, testing and compliance departments. Oversee Firmware evaluation which may include battery management system, truck controllers, charger communication etc.
- Lead and support building and testing of prototypes. Organizes and analyze test data. Planning and developing energy system test strategy along with the characterization of new tests to be performed
- Design and develop various energy system related components and sub-systems. This may include development of control systems, electrical and firmware
- Ensure cross functional engagement by working with internal groups like new product development, test, quality, purchasing, sales etc. to optimize processes and develop new systems
- Work with suppliers to communicate requirements, optimize deliverables and apply the latest technology
- Collect current customer data and provide insights into usage of forklifts. Lead and develop technology road-map development to best suit company financial goals. Understand and interpret applicable standards and gain alignment with compliance, legal departments and other stakeholders
- Troubleshooting, issue tracking and resolution on any current or future energy system related field service requests
When & Where:
- 10%-20% Travel
- This position will work at the Marengo, Illinois location
- The work is primarily done in an office environment with other work locations including development lab, manufacturing line, and field locations such as customer facilities. Microsoft office suite of tools. Basic electrical, mechanical tool usage along with battery cyclers
What you need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical. Systems or related field of study)
- 2+ years of technical leadership experience in energy systems, systems design and power systems
- Demonstrable experience in energy storage solutions, controls systems design or evaluation
- Experienced in constructing complex project schedules involving timelines, manpower and resources
- Must have working experience on battery cyclers, charging and discharging systems, basic electrical instruments like oscilloscope, CANalyzer, etc.
- Experience with industrial equipment battery and charger standards such as ANSI B56.1, UL 583, UL 2580, UL 1564 and other UL standards
- Experience with CANBus protocols and testing
- Able to read & create electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, use 3D CAD systems, and troubleshoot electrical circuits
What would be nice to have:
- Experience with collecting data at customer sites, troubleshooting and issue resolution
- Experience with Firmware integration on electrical sub systems
- Experience with battery heating and cooling architecture
- Demonstrated ability to participate and take initiatives to drive process improvements activities.
- Hands-on experience with design and testing of power electronics, electric motors, controllers, converters, etc.
- Experience with international battery standards such as IEC 62619

The salary for this position ranges from $94,500 to $135,000 annually. The specific salary for a successful candidate will depend upon, among other legitimate factors, education, training, and/or experience.
