American Express National Bank is American Express’ U.S. banking operation, representing more than 60% of the company’s revenues through consistent payments, financing, and savings products. Led by the Chief Operating Officer, AENB HQ drives the administration of programs and services provided by AENB, in partnership with Bank affiliates and executive officers. In addition, the team is responsible for helping AENB attain all established operational and financial goals as well as ensuring ongoing adherence with laws and regulations governing Bank policies and procedures.

The AENB Strategy and Execution Team includes multiple functions within AENB HQ including AENB Strategic Plan and Bank Products, AENB HQ Platforms and Capabilities and the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO). 

The objective of the EPMO Governance and Reporting Team is to establish a foundational enterprise governance structure that ensures risks associated with all enterprise projects are identified, assessed, and managed in compliance with the Enterprise Change Management and Project Governance Policy and reporting.

The AENB Strategy and Execution Team is looking for Managers of Governance and Reporting focused on ensuring project management best practices are adhered to and control management is embedded in the day-to-day operations of our organization. It will involve extensive collaboration with multiple partners across numerous business units, functional areas, and geographies.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Implement consistent methodology and tools to support all business units in governing and executing projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with EPMO colleagues as well as colleagues across the Enterprise to develop project plans that include scope, schedule and budget and effectively track execution of projects.
  • Support strategy and enablement forums, interfacing with org-wide governance processes and committees (e.g., Operational Risk Management Committee) and share insights and lessons learned across forums (e.g., Community of Practice)
  • Create and maintain specific procedures and additional standards (i.e., escalation protocols), related to the execution against the Enterprise Project Governance Framework.
  • Facilitate the understanding and use of the Enterprise Project Governance Framework across BUs through regular communication (e.g., Communities of Practice)
  • Support the day-to-day internal and external exam management process.
  • Design and develop comprehensive portfolio reporting, including dashboards, exceptions reporting, RAG status reporting, and more to enable governance and decision making within the enterprise.
  • Administer comprehensive training initiatives that align with Enterprise Project Risk Governance.
  • Ensure and monitor the integration of regulatory changes & updates into the Enterprise Project Risk framework and training materials.
  • Be an agent for sharing insights, better practices, themes, etc. across the enterprise

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact and obtain buy-in from senior BU/tech counterparts
  • Experience with standard project management governance, methodologies, tools, and artifacts in an enterprise setting.
  • 4+ Years experience in project or enterprise risk management (e.g., within Risk and/or Internal Audit function) Understanding of critical risk management lifecycle activities
  • Experience as a user or administrator of a major PPM tool (Clarity, ServiceNow, Workfront, Apptio, etc.)
  • Expertise in process governance, with a track record of establishing and overseeing robust decision-making processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Risk Mgmt., or related field; advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, MSc) or certifications are advantageous
  • Experience building reports and dashboards within a business intelligence (BI) tool (Power BI, Tableau, etc.) as well as MS Excel
  • Experience within financial services industry
  • Experience in at least one of the following:
    • Translating risk strategies and appetite into execution guidelines
    • Tracking and identifying issues with Key Risk Indicator (KRI) limits and risk appetite to ensure relevant risks are managed within agreed thresholds
    • Implementing risk governance frameworks 
    • Creating, communicating and ensuring understanding and adherence to risk procedures and standards
    • Supporting the risk exam management processes

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
