Job Summary
The part-time medical assisting lab assistant's main role is to support the instructional process by preparing and organizing lab materials, maintaining equipment, and assisting students during practical lab sessions. They ensure the lab environment is conducive to learning, while also promoting safety and adherence to academic and professional standards.
Job Duties:

Prepare Laboratory Materials:
a. Set up and organize supplies, equipment, and specimens needed for lab sessions.
b. Ensure all instruments and equipment are clean, functional, and properly calibrated.

Assist the Instructor:
a. Support the instructor by demonstrating proper use of equipment or techniques to students.
b. Provide hands-on assistance during lab activities as directed by the instructor.

Support Students:
a. Guide students in practicing clinical procedures such as phlebotomy, taking vitals, or administering injections.
b. Answer questions and troubleshoot issues during lab activities.

Maintain Lab Safety:
a. Enforce safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
b. Monitor students to ensure compliance with lab rules and procedures.

Inventory and Supply Management:
a. Help to maintain an inventory of lab supplies for the instructor to order replacements as needed.
b. Track usage and ensure materials are stocked for upcoming classes.

Clean and Sanitize:
a. Sterilize instruments and sanitize workstations after lab sessions.
b. Dispose of biohazardous materials and sharps according to regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of medical assisting experience.
- RMA or CMA certification
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Excellent organizational skills; high attention to detail; independent; self-motivated; able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with many individuals at all levels throughout the internal college environment and external business and community partners, representing himself/herself professionally and courteously.
- Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
- Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and prioritize projects to meet deadlines with high levels of efficiency and accuracy.
- Must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Word).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in and understanding of working with students from diverse populations is preferred.
- Experience working at the community college level is preferred.
