Job Summary

Our O&M Manager is a key member of the plant management team.  You will lead the O&M Technicians assigned to plant operations. The O&M Manager is also responsible for maintaining all plant production equipment employing sound safety, environmental and operating principles within the guidelines of the applicable Power Purchase and Operating Agreement. You will participate in the employee selection process and is responsible for implementation of the O&M Technician training as well as our qualification program. In this role, you will develop and update plant operating procedures, plant maintenance procedures, and are responsible for all aspects of the plants maintenance management system. You will coordinate the company’s Safety and Health program, administer the plant operating and maintenance budgets, identify areas of production optimization and make recommendations for production improvement. 

Responsibilities to be fulfilled with the Plant Management Team

  • Leads the Operations and Maintenance technician teams. 
  • Enhance the morale and motivation of O&M personnel. Handle employee concerns in a timely and diplomatic manner.
  • Using established employee selection techniques, hires, trains and supervises all O&M Technicians.   
  • Provides training and development opportunities for assigned personnel.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of plant operations and maintenance policies and procedures to ensure they reflect current plant goals, operating requirements, and the industry's best in class.
  • Schedules generation, forced outages, and scheduled outages with customer.  Maintains a positive working relationship with customer. 
  • Develops and administers non-fuel cost of sales budget.  Provides assistance in development of capital budgets; originates authorizations for capital expenditures.
  • Develops applicable outage plans and schedules all outage activities.
  • Coordinate’s activities and interfaces with operations contractor and vendor representatives and personnel. 
  • Fosters an environment that encourages superior Safety awareness and Environmental Stewardship through the implementation and support of the Safety Management System and Environmental Management Systems. 
  • Develops, refines, and administers plant operating and maintenance procedures.
  • Collects, analyzes and correlates performance data to maintain and improve plant performance.  Responsible for plant heat rate.
  • Identify plant problems and improvement projects and acts as a Project Manager for the execution of approved projects. 
  • Manages production at facility within safe and legally permissible limits.
  • Meets or exceeds daily gross margin budget.
  • Establishes and maintains housekeeping standards.
  • Perform economic analysis and submit budget requests as directed.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals as required.
  • May be assigned to Safety, Environmental or other plant committees.
  • Performs several administrative tasks such as creating monthly reports, outage reports, etc.
  • Must have hands on experience in managing contractors and plant staff during scheduled and forced outages.
  • Actively promotes teamwork between the maintenance department and the operations department.
  • Complete special projects as required by the Plant Manager and other leadership.
  • Dependable, reliable, and predictable attendance is required for this position.
  • Step up leadership as required.
  • Oversee the qualification, training, development, and evaluation of operations personnel.
  • Develop and maintain plant operating and emergency procedures.
  • Develop and oversee operating logs for monitoring plant components.
  • Develop and maintain required OSHA and EPA safety and health programs.
  • Coordinate safety training and qualifications of all company employees.
  • Ensure employee compliance with company safety programs and policies.
  • Provide scheduling and related policies for operations personnel.
  • Coordinate watch station duties to ensure plant and site cleanliness.
  • Make site rounds to verify operator performance and site cleanliness.
  • Maintain safety product inventory and oversee care of safety equipment.
  • Assist in shutdown planning and perform system start-up testing.

Education and Experience – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

  • 3-5 Years experience in a supervisory position
  • Prior boiler operator experience
  • Degree in Marine Engineering or related field preferred
  • High Pressure Boiler operator’s license is a plus
  • Experience with regulatory compliance in a continuous process environment.
  • Additionally, skills in 1) Operation and maintenance of rotating equipment, 2) utilization of computerized maintenance management systems, and 3) personnel management.
  • History of development of Innovative and creative problem-solving approaches to Improving various aspects of facility performance including technical, personnel, and business.
  • Basic data entry/computer skills
  • Strong leadership, motivational, and communication (oral and written) skills, Including the ability to communicate effectively to groups.
  • Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
  • Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and have the ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.
  • Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.
  • Must be able to work on a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to completely understand and productively respond to all the business challenges.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in the use of computer hardware and applicable software.
  • Must be able to perform physical requirements of the position including climbing ladders, stairs, and must be able to perform comprehensive site inspections.

  • Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, high voltage protective equipment and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties with hazardous materials may be required.
  • Requires working extended working hours with weekend and holiday work as required by workload and plant conditions.  On call status (day and night) may be required.
  • Includes working indoors and outdoors.
