Operations Intern (Service) - Summer 2025

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Service-Oriented Internship Program offers an exciting opportunity for students and recent graduates to learn about operations in the life insurance industry while gaining practical skills in customer service and business processes. As an intern, you will rotate through different areas of operations with a focus on customer support, process optimization, and efficient delivery of services.

This program is designed to provide interns with exposure to key operational functions that drive success in a life insurance company, including new business processing, policy administration, claims management, and customer service.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Customer Service Support: Assist in responding to client inquiries, resolving issues, and providing information about policies and claims.
  • Process Improvement: Work on operational projects to improve workflows, enhance service delivery, and streamline processes for better efficiency.
  • Policy Administration: Support the team with policy setup, amendments, and other administrative tasks, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company policies.
  • Claims Processing: Learn and assist in claims intake, investigation, and resolution, helping to ensure timely and accurate processing.
  • Data Analysis: Contribute to data gathering and reporting efforts to identify trends, inform decision-making, and improve service.
  • Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with various teams (Underwriting, Customer Service, IT, etc.) to ensure smooth processes and clear communication.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain organized records of your activities, document processes, and assist in preparing reports for management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Business Administration, Finance, Insurance, Operations, or a related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-focused mindset.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Interest in life insurance and financial services industry is a plus.

The base compensation range represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees.
Other rewards may include an annual bonus, quarterly bonuses, commissions, and other long-term incentive compensation, depending on the position.  National Life offers a competitive total rewards package which includes: a 401(k) retirement plan match; medical, dental, and vision insurance; a company funded wellness account for director and below employees; 10 paid holidays; a generous paid time off plan (22 days of combined time-off for non-exempt employees and exempt employees have discretion in managing their time, including scheduling time off in the normal course of business, but in no event will exempt employees receive less sick time than required by state or local law); 6 weeks of paid parental leave; and 6 weeks of paid family leave after a year of full-time employment.
