Production Lead (3rd shift) - South Tree
Overview/Purpose:
Oversees the functions of the production line(s) to maximize and maintain optimum efficiency. Operates sophisticated/complex types of electrical/motor driven machinery and is responsible to synchronize the various machinery components of the production line. Monitors incoming WIP (work in progress) and packaging components to produce finish goods that meet food safety standards set forth. Communicates with line workers, warehouse and maintenance personnel to create a pleasant environment and promote good morale.
Tasks are to be completed while maintaining the highest safety, food safety and quality, cost and GMP standards in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Direct and redirect labor as-needed throughout the shift to achieve shift production goals, maximize efficiency and maintain safety standards.
- Conduct and record results for pre-start safety and sanitation inspections, pre-post operation form, and other key shift metrics
- Communicate with warehouse support team to ensure that WIP and packaging is available and staged for the production run as well as throughout the shift. Notify Production Supervisor/ Manger of any inaccuracies or deficiencies.
- Consistently monitor various pieces of equipment throughout processing. Investigate reasons of being out of ranges and work to resolve any issues identified.
- Maintain clean work areas, including disposal of trash and cardboard at the end of the shift.
- Monitor scrap/waste on all lines, record and report data
- Communicate with Production Supervisor to determine planning department’s production run on appropriate production line, preventive maintenance schedule, and MCS.
- Train employees: how to perform their job faster and more reliably and encourage employees with good ideas. Provide feedback to employees concerning mistakes made and ways to improve during the process, maintaining positive employee morale.
- Continuous evaluations of process to improve efficiencies and cut cost.
- Utilize Maintenance Work Request System to resolve equipment issues that are identified
- Effectively execute shift handoff meetings where you provide detailed information for shift performance and issues that occurred.
- Complete end of shift report with all needed information and send out to appropriate members of the leadership team.
- Ensure company policies are carried out in production in a safe working environment.
- Has broad discretionary authority to ensure line is functioning safely and properly and to shut down the machinery when conditions warrant.
- Responsible for reporting food safety and quality issues and initiate action.
- Follow all Food Safety guidelines, such as, but not limited to:
- GMP’s / Allergen Program / Quality / HACCP / Sanitation / Safety
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Proven strong safety record
- Ability to work well with and command the respect of associates and team members
- Ability to make simple math calculation & measurements is required
- Ability to read & speak basic English
- Bi-lingual with Spanish speaking and writing skills preferred
- Effective communication skills with coworkers and supervisors
- Possess manual dexterity to manipulate machinery
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds to shoulder height on an intermittent basis
- Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with internal and external customers
- Understanding of basic principles of the SQF program and other food safety policies/procedure
- Available to work overtime/weekend as needed
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Direct – None
- Indirect – Packers, line leads, and utility operators including temporary labor
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly required to work around operating equipment, stand, reach, pull, stoop and bend
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand. The employee is frequently required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel objects, use tools or controls, and climb or balance.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, low levels of toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock and explosives.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, some instances of this job may require work in areas where ear protection if necessary.
Compensation and Benefits:
- New starting wage is $23.50 / hour (commensurate with experience and location). *Note that rate could change based on a shift schedule.
