As the safety officer, you will patrol assigned areas to ensure the security of individuals, buildings, and equipment, whether on foot or by vehicle. You will check the security of building doors, windows, and gates; utilize keys to access and secure buildings; and monitor these locations for unauthorized individuals and suspicious activity. You will assist all SCAD community members and provide public support with lockouts, jump-starts, and information sharing. You will remain alert for security breaches, building safety hazards, and emergencies, reporting them to the appropriate personnel and first responders.

In this role, you will remain vigilant to unauthorized individuals and security code violations. You will approach suspicious persons to confront or detain them until the police arrive. You will check emergency call boxes and streetlights to ensure they function, provide safe transportation for university employees and visitors, and monitor designated parking areas to maintain security. Additionally, you will prepare standardized reports, control access to buildings and events, and act as the Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. You will also conduct security patrols without direct supervision, operate motor vehicles safely, and complete routine paperwork.

The successful candidate will maintain a level of physical fitness that allows them to stand or walk indoors or outdoors during a shift, run in response to service calls, climb or descend multiple flights of stairs, perform CPR, assist with lifting or carrying persons, and move items weighing up to 50 lbs. They will understand and follow specific instructions to enforce safety codes. The candidate will possess exemplary communication, interpersonal, and protection service skills. They will also have a flexible schedule and prioritize customer service satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications:     

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of public security codes, policies, and regulations
  • Knowledge of Clery Act requirements

Certificates, licenses, and registrations: 

  • Driver’s license with a clean record    

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
