Security Engineer

Under general supervision, maintains and supports all aspects of security for the City's computer networks.

*This position performs duties deemed to be “safety-sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City’s policies*

• Monitors computer networks for security threats or unauthorized users. 
• Identifies compromised machines and reports on security measures taken to address threats. 
• Analyzes security risks and develop response procedures. 
• Installs computer security software, conducts regular security audits and prepares security status reports. 
• Monitors email systems for security issues and attacks. 
• Identifies and remediates system, network, and software vulnerabilities.  
• Establishes and maintains Security for all platforms, systems, and software. 
• Educates users on computer security and creates security documentation for users. 
• Provides management with up to date information on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and remediation.  
• Setups and maintains virus protection on all network systems. 
• Manages print jobs, implements security measures, and manages database files by adjusting their size and purging deleted records. 
• Controls user access to application functions and analyzes and repairs software problems. 
• Installs and maintains firewalls and intrusion detection systems. 
• Orders computer equipment, parts, office supplies and software as required.  
• Provides 24/7 technical support for the City’s 911 Dispatch, Police, Fire, Public Works, and Administration for a duration of 1 week based on rotating schedule with other IT employees.  
• Facilitates and provides technical support for City Council meetings and other departmental and governing body meetings and conferences, legal proceedings, and police computer forensics investigations.  
• Performs other duties as assigned.
