Senior Contract Coordinator, Managed Care


The Senior Contract Coordinator supports the contract management and operations related to all third party agreements throughout the Sutter Health System and maintains the boiler template that is utilized for such agreements. All responsibilities require timely and accurate actions to ensure terms and conditions communicated meet the standards established by the Vice President and Chief Contracting Officer of Managed Care. 


Major responsibilities include\: 

  • Efficient tracking, comparison and communication of key terms and conditions;

  • Supporting the lead negotiator and Contract Manager for each health plan assigned by coordinating contracts, team activities and providing operational assistance;

  • Independently manages special projects as assigned lead;

  • Supporting the Contract Operations Manager by coordinating; maintaining and supporting boiler contract templates including updates and new language;

  • Supporting the Contract Operations Manager for all health plan operational issues;

  • Provide prospective research and analysis of regulatory issues affecting contract negotiations and operations;

  • Supports analysis of operational impact and compliance of contract terms and conditions;

  • Supports affiliates in contract compliance related to delegated services;

  • Resolves Payer operational issues relating to contract provisions;

  • Managing proposal(s) and final documents during negotiations;

  • Maintenance of and reporting from an automated database of Sutter Health third party payer contracts;

  • Coordinating Website staging, updates and releases for the hospital/group/plan search featured under Sutter Health;

  • Researching and maintaining current key information related to the health care industry;

  • Managing multiple projects as assigned within the required timelines.

  • Act as project lead and direct Contract Coordinators and other staff as needed.

  • Trains new and existing staff and develops necessary materials/policies.



Four years college or equivalent work experience with college course work completed in related areas.



  • Strong working knowledge of contract terminology, key provisions, and/or reimbursement methodologies including capitation.

  • Knowledge of the structure of the health care industry, including Provider Systems, HMOs and PPOs.

  • 3- 5 years current experience in a health care setting involving reimbursement and/or contracting desired.

  • Experience acting as project lead and trainer.  


  • Strong PC skills to include Word, Excel; database experience required.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.

  • Ability to communicate persuasively and diplomatically both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to work independently of others and be self-directed.

  • Ability to interpret reimbursement information and salient terms from complex legal documents in the health care arena.

  • Ability to think analytically and logically.

  • Ability to present complex contract information in “lay” terms.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationship with staff at various levels both inside and outside Sutter Health.
