Summary/Objective:
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has two main web properties that together bring film lovers, museum goers, and the film industry together as one community celebrating cinema. Oscars.org and academymuseum.org represent The Academy to the world and must be maintained to the highest standard. We are looking for a highly skilled person to manage how we present ourselves and the work that we do on our websites.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Develop and lead content strategies for digital platforms.
- Manage content migration plans to ensure seamless transitions across digital platforms and the CMS.
- Establish and systematize new efficient editorial workflows across all departments contributing to the web (Edu/Public Programs, Film Programs, Curatorial, Advancement, Publications, PR, Creative/ Graphics, Academy-wide Oscars team, etc.).
- Collaborate with department VPs and Directors to build consensus solutions that work for all.
- Train department staff on new submission forms, formats, and guidelines.
- Define and maintain web editorial standards that align with the needs of the web redesign as well as with existing editorial standards, both CMOS (Chicago Manual of Style) and Academy Museum standards (developed in partnership with Publications).
- Edit and oversee all web editorial content and copy, with consideration of SEO.
- Partner with Product Manager to establish information architecture.
- Implement editorial and copy changes to web as submitted or needed.
- Review all current pages on the website for tone, grammar, & accuracy.
- Evaluate existing copy for brand voice consistency as well as consideration for SEO and accessibility.
- Copy, edit, and rewrite copy as needed in partnership with writer/copyeditor.
- Partner with the Marketing Team on a new website editorial calendar that ladders up to the overall annual marketing calendar and plan.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to ensure all web copy is on brief, on strategy, and on time.
Required Competencies:
- A college degree required.
- At least 7 years of editing experience, including shaping story and message (substantive editing), enforcing concise copy (line-editing), as well as copy editing and fact-checking.
- At least 5 years of experience building, maintaining and enforcing editorial workflows and standards.
- At least two years of experience working directly in a CMS, preferably Contentful.
- A highly skilled copywriter and copy editor.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in film or the arts a plus
- Experience at a non-profit a plus

Hybrid Requirement: All Academy positions require a minimum of 2-days per week of in-person work at an Academy Location. Exceptions: Positions requiring daily in person presence (ex. Compensation: The expected base salary for this role is $85,000. The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.)
