The role is part of American Express’s Credit and Fraud Risk (“CFR”) business unit and the Global Commercial Services (GCS) group. CFR follows the company’s commitment to risk management by identifying and implementing key revenue and risk drivers, Big Data capabilities and skills, and understanding of the Company’s traditional and FinTech competitors. Professionals working in the CFR organization are responsible for leveraging highly specialized quantitative skills towards judicious management of write-offs across strong and challenging economics, along with informed risk trade-offs, which are central to great bottom line and top line results of the Company. Risk management thus requires professionals with a highly specialized set of skills and expertise in quantitative analysis; management of large, complex datasets; and the ability to derive actionable insights from business intelligence to drive this critical function.
How will you make an impact in this role?
The key responsibilities include:
- Drive in-depth portfolio analytics and collaborate with different cross functional team including New Accounts, Decision Science, Line management and customer management team to develop action plan to mitigate risk.
- Develop strategies and controls to design new products, utilizing the existing modular capabilities and ensuring scalability and speed to market across lending portfolio.
- Develop knowledge of internal processes and leverage existing risk strategies and systems to increase efficiencies and scalability across products.
- Manage and prioritize investments and requirements across products.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams–product, finance, servicing, technology – to design and execute flawless implementation. Manage written and verbal communication with key project sponsors and senior leadership.
- Superior thought leadership, project management and analytical thinking with demonstrated proficiency in simultaneously managing multiple projects.
- Credit Risk Management experience with an in-depth understanding of the end-to-end credit lifecycle, as well as an in-depth understanding of credit metrics and processes.
- Proven ability and self-sufficiency to translate business priorities into executable strategies.
- Ability to build strong relationships, drive, and influence within large cross-functional teams.
- Utilize industry and internal risk management best practices and incorporate regulatory feedback as needed to recommend risk control methods and drive continuous improvement in risk management methodologies and frameworks.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a quantitative field such as Econometrics, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, or Engineering
- Advanced degree is preferred but not required given a suitable combination of formal education and work experience
- Risk management experience with strong analytical and quantitative skills
- Credit/Fraud risk management experience and understanding of credit lifecycle is preferred
- Hands-on experience working with large datasets; familiarity with Hive, Python, R, SAS, SQL, and/or other similar programming languages
- Creative thought leadership, bold ambition, and an ability to win
- Blend of analytical skills, process expertise, project management and relationship-building skills
- Ability to think strategically and apply both quantitative methods and business insights to drive results
- Ability to build strong relationships in a cross-functional environment
- Clear, effective written and oral communication skills
Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits

Salary range
- $90,000 - $165,000
