Job Summary

  • This position is responsible for providing support to the First Year Orientation initiative as a student leader. You will be able to build communication, leadership, and BCTC/KCTCS knowledge skills, as well as engaging with prospective new students & their parents/guests. This position takes place during a specific timeframe, that being orientation season, March – August (the majority of the orientations take place May – July). You must be a current/former BCTC student to apply for this position, due to the knowledgebase and experience needed for this position. The First Year Orientation Student Leader reports to the Student Success Coordinator (Orientation) and the Student Engagement Coordinator (Student Success Hub). **Training and schedule will be provided at the interview.**

Job Duties:

  • 1. Present to the parent and student sessions on BCTC resources and during the student panel portion.
    2. Aid in the set-up and clean-up of orientation on the dates specified (dates will be provided as well as an Orientation guide detailing roles).
    3. Support and guide prospective students to the location that they are looking for on orientation day.
    4. Participate in breakout sessions by answering questions, providing first-hand experiences on time spent at BCTC as a student, and assist in the activities that will be implemented in the sessions.
    5. Make Student ID’s during the lunch/resource fair portion of orientation.
    6. Staff the Student Success Hub’s resource fair table.
    7. Assist the Student Success Coordinator & the Student Engagement Coordinator as needed.
    8. Participate in trainings to prepare you for orientation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • • Current or former BCTC student. *For former students, up to 1.5 years after graduating BCTC*
    • GPA minimum: 2.5
    • Valid driver’s license or reliable transportation to and from campus. (Orientations are mostly on Friday’s, March - July)
    • Great communication skills, reliability, being respectful, and knowledge of the college.
