Job Summary

To promote childhood literacy by working as an America Reads tutor. This is a wonderful opportunity to improve the lives of children by fostering a love of reading.

The selected applicant will be reading to schoolchildren and promoting childhood literacy at Warren Elementary School, across the street from SKYCTC’s Main Campus located at 1846 Loop Drive, Bowling Green, KY 42104. Remote work is not available.
The tutor will directly report to SKYCTC’s Financial Aid Office, as well as having a designated supervisor at Warren Elementary.

The tutoring job pays $14.00 an hour with a maximum of 20 hours per week.

The anticipated employment period is January 2025 - May 2025.


Job Duties:

• Reads to schoolchildren to promote childhood literacy
• Demonstrates SKYCTC’s Culture of Caring
• Reports hours worked for each shift and submits a weekly timesheet
• Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information
• Other assigned duties



Minimum Qualifications:

• Is currently enrolled at SKYCTC as a credential-seeking student
• Submits a completed, current year FAFSA to SKYCTC
• Is a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen
• Maintains a GPA of 2.0 or higher and makes Satisfactory Academic Progress
• Maintains enrollment in 6 or more program-applicable credit hours at SKYCTC
• Demonstrates financial need, per Federal Work Study requirements
• Consents to state and national pre-employment background checks, per Kentucky State Law


 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Enjoys working with children to encourage a love of reading
• Has excellent reading and communication skills
• Is dependable and punctual (communicates immediately if sick or running late)
• Is a positive role model inside and outside the classroom
• Can commit to working consistent hours throughout the semester (tutoring hours will not conflict with class schedule or exams)
