Pay Range
$128,600.00-$176,900.00 AnnualThis is the base salary pay range that an applicant can expect to make upon hire. Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors. In addition, this position is eligible for an incentive bonus.
The purpose of the role is to drive the enterprise material sustainability agenda by developing, promoting, coordinating, and reporting both internally and externally on the company sustainability strategy and progress. The key areas of focus are waste reduction, use of recycled materials, and overall energy and carbon footprint reduction across the manufacturing organization. The role involves interaction with a wide range of functional groups including manufacturing, engineering, R&D, procurement, information technology, human resources, finance, and business leadership across all JM businesses and operating regions. Responsibilities include identifying and championing technical projects that align with the company sustainability goals and business financial metrics.
This role acts as the technical expert for sustainability across the company and is knowledgeable about the intersection of sustainability and the company manufacturing technologies. Collaboration and a passion for results are important attributes.
The role involves supporting and monitoring the deployment of identified sustainability programs, influencing stakeholders to participate, and regularly evaluating the performance data for continual improvement opportunities.
The ideal candidate would be in the Denver metro area, but open to someone who is remote within the United States, if fully remote travel will be up to 50% of the time.
Your Day-to-Day:
- Develop and obtain consensus on the company material sustainability goals including waste reduction, recycling content, and carbon footprint reduction.
- Develop a 5-10-year project roadmap, prioritize projects based on business and sustainability metrics, create high level business cases, and propose projects to business leaders
- Engage with the European commercial teams to ensure customer needs and wants are appropriately quantified and considered in development of JM sustainability priorities
- Maintain and upgrade the data, dashboards, and analytics tools necessary for current and potential sustainability metrics
- Work closely with the procurement team to develop and implement a practical renewable electricity strategy including current and future operating needs and financial considerations
- Promote plant operating efficiency, energy efficiency, plant level accountability, and division visibility for sustainability
- Characterize manufacturing waste streams and develop a prioritized waste reduction strategy through internal and external avenues
- Identify opportunities to increase external recycled material use with existing and novel material types
- Promote long-horizon technology development internally and/or externally (examples include hydrogen and electrification)
- Engage the product development and product management organizations on sustainable product development strategies
- Develop product-oriented sustainability data tools and initiate high-level raw material scope 3 data collection
- Coordinate LCA / EPD capability, priorities, and strategy across the businesses
- Lead the creation and publication of the periodic JM Sustainability Report
- Work with corporate communications and commercial teams to maintain consolidated, uniform sustainability messaging internally and externally
- Coordinate and support the implementation of sustainability goals across varies parts of enterprise, including technology, projects, and business development
- Work with legal and environmental functions to ensure technology and reporting readiness for future sustainability legislation and regulation
What You Bring to the Team:
- Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering and 10+ years of extensive relevant experience in sustainability roles
- Advanced degree in science or engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience in sustainability roles
- Demonstrated Project Management experience required
- Experience in a manufacturing company strongly preferred
- Strong communication skills across all business levels
- Clear understanding of governance processes
- Inquisitive approach that seeks to understand the full business context including financial aspects, and ability to communicate expectations to cross-functional groups
- Experienced working in a ‘matrix style’ operational environment including multiple cultures and regions
- Must have strong influencing and leadership skills plus experience leading multi-disciplinary teams
- Travel 25%-50%, mainly domestic travel but could include international travel as necessary to support JM objectives
