Pay Range
$74,200.00-$102,000.00 AnnualThis is the base salary pay range that an applicant can expect to make upon hire. Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors. In addition, this position is eligible for an incentive bonus.
Position Overview:
The purpose of the Process Development Engineer’s role is to develop and implement process improvements aimed at increasing product quality and reducing overall cost. The key function of this role is to define, scope and execute data-driven engineering projects aimed at optimization of the synthetic nonwoven processes and increasing first pass yield (FPY). Additionally, the Process Development Engineer shall maintain focus on lowering current manufacturing costs, as well as future capital investment. Areas of technical expertise include evaluation and analysis of process data, product commercialization, product cost reduction, and new technology identification, scale-up and commissioning. The Process Development Engineer will be responsible for directing and conducting projects and assigned tasks in synthetic nonwoven manufacturing operations and ensuring that all safety procedures are followed.
Your Day-to-Day:
- Identify and utilize all available process data to optimize the synthetic nonwoven process (via process improvements, new equipment design and specification, design modifications or SOP’s to increase product output, optimize processes, overall increases in FPY
- Conduct plant trials to quantitatively evaluate new and optimized equipment. Trials will include a thorough analysis of process data wherever possible, RACI chart, MOC documentation, budget control, coordination with Plant Ops team, equipment procurement, installation and operation. Commercialize equipment based on project outcome and a follow-up evaluation of process data to validate the success of the project
- Prepare final documentation covering assigned projects and issue internal JM Research or Engineering reports
- Work safely in Plant operations and adhere to all Plant safety requirements
- Identify best practices in ‘field of expertise’ and implement across plants
- Troubleshoot manufacturing problems and provide technical support to process engineering and plant operations teams
- Work within the Innovation & Commercialization department to ensure that process and product projects complement or enhance product quality
- May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
What You Bring to the Team
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or Textile Engineering preferred) and a minimum of 1 year experience in a technical position in engineering/manufacturing
- In depth knowledge in field of textiles and nonwovens processes
- Good understanding of process control systems and process data collection systems to include in-depth knowledge of using data-driven principles to drive process improvements
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, Minitab or equivalent SPC software, and Solid Edge or other CAD system
- Basic statistical skills including interpretation of control charts, analysis of variation, experience in developing and performing DOE’s
- Solid analytical, engineering design calculation and problem-solving skills
- Proven experience with equipment design
- Demonstrated knowledge of key production processes and project management skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of process modeling systems
- Ability in meeting aggressive program deliverables
- Excellent high level organizational and time management skills
- Proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Excellent communicator with demonstrated interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Moderate travel required (11 – 29 days per year)
- Work environment is typical of a manufacturing facility; may be exposed to environmental conditions of cold, heat, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, heights, dust/mist/gas/fumes, extensive walking or climbing, etc.
