The Technology organization partners with the American Express business to enable, support, and drive the company’s growth plans and strategic priorities by supporting the delivery and operations of technology capabilities, platforms, and services globally. Specifically, the team delivers global capabilities and services in support of American Express customers and colleagues, and it is responsible for the company’s technology infrastructure, providing 24x7 support to ensure an uninterrupted, high-quality experience for external and internal customers. It also governs technology risk and information security across the American Express enterprise.
The objective of the Technology Control Management Issues, Events & Remediation team is to ensure timely identification, response, and resolution of risk events and issues to minimize impact, as well as to prevent recurrence through effective remediation and lesson learning.
Technology Control Management is looking for a Information Security Manager for Issues, Events & Remediation –Intake team to play a critical role in assisting the team with variety of Operational Risk Events ownership engagements.
The Information Security Manager, Technology Control Management Issues, Events & Remediation will:
- Drive ownership conversations by conducting proper due diligence.
- Manage Operational Risk Events to determine Root Cause Analysis and engage multiple business teams and Technology partners to align on ownership.
- Document and submit Triage Engagement form within strict timelines
- Work closely with other Business Unit Control Management teams and the Enterprise Control Management team for Triage engagements.
Required Qualifications:
- 6+ Years experience in operational risk management
- Experience within financial services industry
- Understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities
- Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact and obtain buy-in from senior BU/tech counterparts
- Ability to assess potential issues to determine if an Operational Risk Event is required.
- Strong understanding of the Issue Management program for the Enterprise.
- Strong understanding of Risk Management and Risk Treatment protocols.
- Strong understanding of Controls and Control Management.
- Ability to work with various Technology teams, Business Unit Control Management Teams and the Enterprise Control Management team, at various leadership levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively
- Strong understanding of roles and responsibilities for Technology, Capability Product Owners (CPO) and Business Units (BU).
- Ability to ask the "right" questions without having extensive knowledge in a particular business area.
- Strong presentation skills, particularly in the development of professional and thoughtful materials.
- Strong understanding of Information Technology (IT) processes, Information Technology (IT) systems within American Express and Software Delivery Life Cycle (SDLC) process, is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Risk Mgmt., or related field; advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, MSc) or certifications are advantageous
- Experience in at least one of the following:
- Intake/Ownership engagements for Technology Operational Risk Events
- Scoping, prioritizing, and support remediation of operational risk events
- Investigating and conducting root cause analysis to address repeated operational risk issue types
- Proven ability to adjust quickly to shifting priorities, multiple demands, ambiguity, and rapid change.
- Should be self-motivated and able to thrive in an environment with ad-hoc requests and shifts in direction.
- Excellent project management and interpersonal skills

Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
