Enterprise Strategy (ES) is American Express’ corporate strategy and internal consulting division. ES serves as a partner to key leaders, the executive team, and the CEO, providing thought leadership and an external perspective on the most critical strategic initiatives and pressing challenges. ES consists of approximately 65 professionals across London, New York, and Gurgaon serving the enterprise globally.
Enterprise Strategy works on the single most important strategic questions for American Express, spanning long term and short term, BU-facing and enterprise level and across multiple diverse spaces such as payments, travel, lifestyle and many others. With each project we frame and analyze complex business problems, develop recommendations, partner with leadership to drive execution, facilitate governance and communication processes, and play a key role in informing and influencing decision-making.
ES is also known as a key external talent pipeline for future leaders at American Express. Individuals within the group have transitioned to take on key leadership roles across various business units, armed with the breadth of experience, exposure to senior management and leadership skills developed during their time with Enterprise Strategy.
The Vice President of Strategy will join as a member of the ES Leadership Team and become a direct report to the Chief Strategy Officer. The VP of Strategy will have direct access to Executive Committee members and senior leaders across the enterprise to help define & articulate corporate and business strategy via various project engagements across global business units.
Responsibilities:
- Identify value creation opportunities with business partners across American Express
- Build and maintain consensus with business partners on objectives, critical issues, work-plan, implications, recommendations, and implementation plan
- Provide intellectual leadership to the team to ensure the highest quality analytic and conceptual output
- Collaborate effectively with senior leaders members of your project team and with other colleagues across the organization
- Lead the charge on internal ES initiatives and activities (e.g. involvement in knowledge building efforts, mentoring, recruiting, and training)
- Lead a team of 10+ individuals, promoting their development through skill planning, coaching, and performance feedback
- Clearly allocate responsibilities among project team members, balancing the fulfilment of team goals with the professional growth and satisfaction of individuals
Requirements & Skills:
- 6+ years in a post-graduate management consulting or corporate strategy role, and at least 6 months of experience concurrently leading multiple strategy teams or projects while developing high performing individuals
- Exceptional problem-solving skills including issue identification, problem structuring, analysis, development of recommendations
- A solid track record of building strong client relationships within large organizations, and identifying opportunities to deepen those relationships and grow the business
- Leads with taking initiative, leveraging influence, and encouraging collaboration
- Proven ability to attract, assess, select, develop, empower, and retain the best talent, while building an environment supporting the development of diverse teams
- Strong affinity for AXP values including collaboration, taking an external perspective, challenging the status quo, all while being humble, curious, and driven
Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $225,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits

Salary range
- $130,000 - $225,000 per year
