About Global Credit & Fraud Operations (GCFO)The GCFO organization at American Express plays a critical role to protect the company and enable growth through our global credit and collection teams. GCFO also drives exceptional customer experiences for Card Members at pivotal moments during their journey with American Express, including those related to new accounts, fraud, card replacements and remittances. The organization is comprised of several diverse teams: U.S. Credit & Collections, International Credit & Collections, Global Commercial Credit and Underwriting, Global New Accounts and Global Fraud.About U.S. Credit & Collections (USCC)As part of GCFO, USCC is responsible for the end-to-end management of our credit and collections operations across the US. USCC strives to strike the right balance between helping Customers in need through a range of repayment options, and taking actions to recover balances, and limit exposure for American Express.About the Role

This position will be responsible for driving collections effectiveness and operational risk goals across the outside agency network. In addition, this person will play a central role in driving consistency of best practices across the Outside Agency (OA) network around the globe, underpinning transformation, and will establish robust governance processes. This position will partner very closely with several functions within American Express such as: Global Banking, Compliance, General Counsel's Organization, Technology, Credit & Fraud Risk teams, and number of subgroups within the Enterprise to drive overall alignment and effectiveness. This role will ensure 24 hours a day and 7 days a week global audit readiness in a highly scrutinized regulatory environment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide a clear, long-term vision for US Collections-Outside agency (OA) management team
  • Transform and innovate our outside agency partner strategies and model
  • Manage outside agency partners to optimize collections workstream, provide strategic direction, and ensure alignment with US collections priorities.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with OA partners, fostering a culture of trust and accountability to drive performance.
  • Partner with Credit and Fraud Risk teams to manage customer spend disruptions, collections rate and maximize business profitability.
  • Minimize losses by optimizing collections effectiveness strategies and liquidation of recoveries inventory which directly impact company’s P&L.
  • Lead teams of proprietary and non-proprietary collectors.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in a global, matrixed environment, with experience in leading geographically dispersed teams and outside agency network.

Key Skills & Requirements

  • 12+ years of leadership experience in related Credit operations/collections / Strategy OR financial services industry, preferably in US market.
  • Strong understanding of the financial services or related industry – specifically collection effectiveness, recoveries, and operations.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with proven ability to influence others to drive broad organizational change with internal and external partners. This role will require active collaboration with OA which will help AMEX with collections life cycle. Hence, the leader should build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with OA partners, fostering a culture of trust and accountability to drive performance.
  • Innovative thinking to simultaneously improve operational risk and collections effectiveness.
  • Experience in developing and leading successful organizational change and key initiatives.
  • Ability to identify industry trends and to constantly look for opportunities to benchmark other collections metrics, highlight opportunities to bring innovation and new ideas into American Express.
  • High degree of agility, decision making and problem solving.
  • Analytical experience to deal with complex business problems, evaluating alternatives and recommending solutions based on strong operational and financial acumen.
  • Proven ability to provide flawless execution, manage performance while adhering to strict deadlines.
  • Ensure we lead with a culture of Control Management and Compliance.

Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
