Summary/Objective:

Visitor Services Associates focus on on-site sales of the Museum’s programming, membership, group sales, and retail offerings while also creating a welcoming environment for the Museum’s audiences. Proactively and energetically engaging with our visitors, Associates will be trained in customer service and sales skills as well as security regulations. Visitor Services Associates will move between the Winkler Welcome Center, the Academy Museum Store, the Oscars Experience gallery, and other posts throughout the day on a flexible, as-needed basis.


This position is represented by a union.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Work well with people of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Champion the museum’s mission.
  • Warmly welcome visitors to the museum with a friendly demeanor and initiate engagement to launch their experience with information on all Museum offerings, including exhibitions, events, daily activities, film screenings, group sales, retail products, and Fanny’s Restaurant and Café.
  • At the Winkler Welcome Center, handle cash transactions and assist visitors with tickets to the museum, screenings, and special events.
  • Sell Museum merchandise and related products in the Academy Museum Store.
  • Sell tickets and staff at the Oscars Experience gallery.
  • Focus on sales of Museum memberships at all sales locations.
  • Handle group sales inquiries, support group check-in, and ensure groups are prepared for their visit.
  • Act as a communications representative for the museum, assisting via phone and email and providing excellent customer support to our visitors.
  • Support events hosted by the museum, including screenings, activations, and special programs.
  • Demonstrate skill in addressing customer complaints and concerns with patience and empathy.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to upholding the museum’s values and mission.
  • Attend department meetings/huddles, read departmental memos, and remain aware of all policy updates.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Competencies:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent certificate of completion.
  • 1+ years of sales or hospitality experience (e.g., customer service, retail, other front-facing roles).
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.
  • The drive and energy to play a key role in the success of the Museum.
  • Flexible and highly adaptable; maintains a positive attitude when asked to shift priorities.
  • A strong candidate is energized by people.
  • The ability to be proactive and use independent judgment and initiative.
  • Experience with security issues is a plus.
  • The availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently move about all posted positions.
  • Ability to be stationary 50% of the time and always remain alert.
  • Must be able to position self to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to move and transport at least 25 Ibs.

The expected salary for this role is $20.00 per hour. The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
