Pay Range
$45,000.00-$61,800.00 AnnualThis is the base salary pay range that an applicant can expect to make upon hire. Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors. In addition, this position is eligible for an incentive bonus.
Position Overview: The Welder II is responsible for performing various welding and fabrication task to produce precision parts and components. This role requires a strong focus on safety, quality, and efficiency. The Welder II will work under the supervision of senior welders and supervisors to ensure that production goals are met while adhering to company policies and procedures.
Core Competencies:
Health, Safety and Environmental
- Selection and Use of PPE: Proper selection and use of plant PPE and task-specific PPE.
- Safety: Maintain safe work habits, recognize hazards, and ensure hand safety.
- Hazardous Communication: Understand and follow hazardous communication protocols and grinding safety.
- Control of Hazardous Energy (LOTO): Implement lockout/tagout procedures to control hazardous energy.
- Mobile and Powered Equipment Operation: Safely operate forklifts and powered pallet jacks.
- Crane Operations: Perform crane pre-use inspections, operation, and rigging.
- Machine Guarding: Ensure machine guarding and E-Stop awareness/operation.
- Policy Adherence: Follow JM Life Critical Policies.
- Waste Management: Manage waste streams including scrap metal and environmental considerations.
- JSA: Comprehend and sign off on Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
- Housekeeping: Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area.
- Hot Work: Understanding of hot work permitted areas and housekeeping.
Computer/Data Entry
- Computer Skills: Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft O365 applications(Outlook, SharePoint, Excel, Word).
- Reporting Systems: Perform quality control inspections of parts on the machine and report any deficiencies via applicable quality reporting systems.
- Data Entry: Document work orders(via SAP ERP system) and other documentation required for quality control.
- SOPs: Locate and use Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) via computer based library system (SharePoint).
- Training: Ability to navigate and utilize various computer based training (CBT) for safety and compliance.
General Industry
- Tool Use: Use common hand and power tools effectively. Examples would be drills, grinders, deburring tools, surface grinder, etc.
- Measuring: Ability to use precision measuring tools such as tape measures, scales, micrometers, and calipers to perform dimensional tolerancing of parts.
- Shop Math: Apply intermediate level shop math including measurements, geometry, volume, and area.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Interpret blueprints and understand intermediate-level GD&T including the ability identify weld symbols.
Job/Trade Specific
- Equipment: Maintain welding equipment and tools in good working condition.
- Collaboration: Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with team members to complete projects on time.
- Set-up: Demonstrate ability to set-up a welding machine in order to perform necessary tasks. This includes the use of programs and profiles.
- Tooling/Fixtures: Demonstrate ability to set-up and use fixturing to complete necessary fabrication tasks. This also include the ability to effectively utilize rotary tables.
- Welding: Ability to perform all aspects of welding of carbon steel, stainless steel, Inconel, and aluminum.
- Metallurgy: Understanding of heat control and its effects on alloys.
- Inspection: Ability to perform visual inspections for all type of weld defects (Undercut, cold lap, inclusions, porosity, cracking, etc.)
- Inspection: Demonstrate ability to complete pressure testing of welded parts to inspect for weld quality.
- Equipment: Ability to use various fabrication shop equipment such as shear, plate roller operations, hydraulic press break, hand break, foot shear, swaging, and flaring.
- Dexterity: Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. This includes ability to weld in multiple positions/angles.
- Production: Demonstrate ability to meet or exceed minimum standard times for assigned tasks.
Department Specific Requirements
- Fabrication
- Fabrication: Demonstrate ability to fabricate complex assemblies with little or no oversight.
- Fabrication: Demonstrate ability flatten/straighten parts to meet tight tolerances.
- Fabrication: Demonstrate ability to fabricate complex assemblies to withing 1/16" tolerances.
- Fabrication: Demonstrate ability to perform soldering/brazing fabrication tasks.
- Metallurgy: Demonstrate knowledge of heat control and a strong understanding of heat effects and various type of metal alloys.
- Welding: Demonstrate a strong foundational knowledge of and ability to perform fabrication tasks using three main welding techniques: Arc (SMAW), MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW)
- Welding: Spot welding and fabrication to 1/8 inch tolerance.
- Weld Prep: Weld preparation (removal of scale and oil, grinding of bevels and fit-up).
- Plasma: Demonstrate ability to use a plasma machine to perform all cutting tasks.
- Welding/Cutting: Demonstrate ability to perform welding and cutting task using oxygen/acetylene.

Minimal Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to learn and follow safety protocols.
- In addition to the competencies mentioned above, there is a minimum of 1-3 years of welding/fabrication operational experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree or certificate in Welding or similar program from an accredited institution.
- In addition to the competencies mentioned above an ideal candidate would have 5+ years of welding experience
- Proficient with all disciplines of welding.
- Certification in multiple disciplines of welding by an accredited certification board such as American Welding Society (AWS).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.
- Standing for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing plant with exposure to noise, dust, and machinery.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
